Form 4868 Query
« on: March 25, 2016, 08:45:34 AM »
Hi guys, first post here and I was looking for some tax help

Saw this on another site, and nobody seemed to give a straight answer or know the correct one. And as it applies to me to thought I'd repost here as I don't like the idea of filing two forms.

Hi guys,

Was about to send out my partners US tax payment and request for a 6 month extension when our friend mentioned Form 4868 which we were filing not being compatible with the FEIE we wish to qualify for. They said you HAD to file form 2350 instead and you couldn't get FEIE if you did not.

I just want to get 100% clarification here before we file is the 6 month extension form compatible with FEIE? The 6 month will cover her bona fide residence period. Or do we HAVE to file Form 2350 instead.

Any idea which form should be filed?I personally though form 4868 was an all purpose extension and 2350 was if you needed more than 6 months.

You are correct. Form 4868 has to be filed by 15 June; you can apply for more time if you need.

Easier than filing 4868, use EFTPS to make an extension payment of any amount, even $1. Then claim it back when you file.
