Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup
« on: April 01, 2016, 03:44:55 PM »
I'm pregnant and have been DYING for some good old Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup but I can't find it ANYWHERE. Also, plain old saltine crackers. I can get Ritz which are okay but not the same thing.

I hear you on that one! I found that Morrison's 47p a packet chicken noodle soup is an okay substitute. It's not as nice as campbell's by any means, but it's better than Heinz.

My mom brought me a box of saltines, but I didn't eat them fast enough! haha. They went bad.

I had a look at that site... there are 2 or 3 things I'd probably buy if I wasn't going over to the US on a visit later this year.

But honestly... WINDEX? Really?  Windex!?
Reminds me of a time on another expat forum when someone was saying the salt was different over here, and she was longing for American 'Mortons' salt.
Windex, ffs.  ::)

WINDEX

British husband: I know it has been hard on you Darlene...
US wife: Oh Daryll, I just....I just....
British husband: But I got you....a little something from home...

I've heard people recommend others bring back Saran Wrap.   :P

Hahahaha. There are very few American brands I can't do without.

However I have found that every mayonnaise I have tried over here is just plain gross and I long for Duke's mayo. Since you don't have to refrigerate until you open it, I'll definitely be bringing some back this year. :)

I was pretty surprised you couldn't get antibacterial cream (like Neosporin) over here. I asked for it at Boots and the pharmacist looked at me like I'd asked for napalm.

Neosporin isn't available over the counter because it's an antibiotic cream, which you can only get on prescription in the UK.

Not sure why it's prescription only though - might have something to do with the fact that the body can become immune to antibiotics if they are used too often.

Yeah, it's pretty weird considering you can get products with codeine in them over the counter...

Haha. Agreed. My mother who is a nurse was shocked and horrified when she visited and my sister was able to get it OTC for her migraine.

Yeah, it's really odd - just different laws in different countries.

Some medicines are sold for completely different purposes in the UK compared to the US... for example, the antihistamine, diphenhydramine (in 25mg tablets):

- in the UK is it sold behind the pharmacy counter as the sleeping tablet, Nytol (two-a-night)
- in the US it is sold on the shelf as the anti-allergy tablet, Benadryl (while Benadryl in the UK is non-drowsy and contains acrivastine instead)
