Family moving in Aug- Sept

Howdy y'all

We will be moving to the UK sometime before the fall for a company transfer (my husband's).  I have been lurking on the forums for a while, and I have read up on housing, transportation, education, and etiquette differences between the countries. The hardest thing for me, being an Okie, is going to be not greeting everyone warmly and waving at strangers.

We have a four year old and one who will be born in the early summer. I'm a bit nervous about the differences in vaccinations between countries.  I work as a Speech Language Pathologist and getting the TB vaccine in the UK might hurt employment in the US in the future..  What about my daughter? Will she be given the time to get her UK vaccines whiles she attends school?

I was also shocked that SLPs make half (at best) what they make in the US.   

We also have a dog.  Finding a rental property that allows dogs seems to be hard to find. 

We are excited, but I feel a little overwhelmed!

Having the BCG vaccination won't affect your employment chances in the US. Hospitals there are used to employees from foreign countries who have had it in the past.

It just means you'll need a chest xray  to rule out active tb when you have your routine medical. CXR was good for 4 years when I was last working.

To be fair - most people here make less than their US counterparts. The cost of living is higher in the UK.

They no longer do the BCG vaccine as standard.  Only real difference in the vaccination schedules is the chicken pox vaccine is not standard here.

You are able to decline or delay any vaccination.

You can do it! We found a rental that will accept our 3 (!) dogs, and spent the last 5 months getting rid of all our accumulated crap here in the US!  I am now camping out in our nearly-empty house until I fly on Friday.  Yes my husband is making less money there, and everything is more expensive, but IMO life is about experiences and the more of them the better!  There were many times I felt totally overwhelmed and wavered about the whole thing, and my husband would just say 'We're going'.  Now the end is in sight I feel really good about it.  My advice, start decluttering now, sell stuff on eBay, Craigslist, FB etc.  I waited waaay too long to do that.
