Any Last minute items?
« on: April 10, 2016, 09:01:53 PM »
Flying over on Friday, husband and pets already there, any last minute items I should be buying/packing?  I already picked up extra measuring spoons!
Cheers Julia

Any non-perishable food items you'll REALLY miss in the first few months (they don't really have ranch dressing here other than Newman's own).

Check and see if your favourite hair products, face and body products and make up are available here. I had to find a lot of new products when I first moved. I still haven't found replacements for some things. :(

US measuring cups (they are larger here) if you have a lot of US recipes you'll use.

And that's all I can think of. I really miss my favourite Murad moisturiser, I wish it wouldn't be so expensive to get here.

Oh, and if you like Clinique lip balms, the lovely coloured ones in tubes, they don't have them in the UK anymore. My mom's sending me some from the US where they are still for sale as they are one of the best selling products.

Yes totally agree on non perishable. Wish I would have brought more of the hidden valley ranch powder dips mix. Hairbrushes.....I go through one a month, when was normally 2 a year. Face cream, tho I can get that reasonably on eBay.

A mother's day card for this year. Mothers day is in March here so there won't be any in the shop come may.

Have a safe flight!!

A mother's day card for this year. Mothers day is in March here so there won't be any in the shop come may.

This has one of two outcomes for me:

- I'm more on top of card-buying and get a Mother's Day card in March and buy marked down (but still tasty) chocolates just after UK Mother's Day with plenty of time to post a small package to the US by US Mother's Day

- I completely forget and end up either making a card or sending a generic card

This year is the latter. ::)

I send my mom a card in March. She doesn't care that it is early. She still gets a special call/Facebook post in May, but the card is really early. Just didn't want the op to forget her mom on the first mothers day away

They make personalized cards. I love them. And it is about the same cost as a fancy pants card from the shop.

Yeah, I always buy my mom a card in March and I forgot to send it last year, but I hand delivered it in June when I was there for two weeks, so it worked out okay!

And Moonpig... oh that stupid jingle gets stuck in my head! haha.

Large bottles of painkillers: acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen (last one only available on prescription here in the UK), any other OTC meds you particularly like/rely on.

Thanks all!  Yes I already thought of a Mother's Day card as my UK Mom was moaning she'd miss out on both UK and US Mom's day this year :-)  Can't think of foods I'll really miss, probably not until I'm missing them :-)  Plan to stop at Costco for a giant acetaminophen on the way to the airport, and probably 2 pounds of starbucks beans too!  I got lots of drugs for my pets so I don't immediately have to find a vet, esp. since we give 1 dog a monthly shot, which I understand is a no-no in the uk (don't want to pay for a vet visit every month for a simple sub-cue. shot!)

Starbucks beans?  Are they different in the US?  I doubt it.

Don't worry, there's plenty of Starbucks here
