When we retired in 2011 and went back to the States I had my first good cleaning in quite a few years.....but I was ready for it. My UK wife was not. I just called our cleaner Heather the Pain Goddess. The first one was the worst and it half killed me and ended up with a couple of shots. My wife didn't know she could ask for a shot......she thought she was going to die it hurt so much (my wife is tougher than me....of course). I had only had the barely cleaning job they do here......Heather scraped, dug, she may have had a jackhammer as well...not sure. They wanted me to come back in 3-4 months since they were worse than they were used to. I explained it was just because I had been living elsewhere for a long time and I would just stick with the 6 month cleaning......she didn't really believe me. When I came back 6 months later and they were "reasonable", she agreed 6 months was ok. My wife went back a couple of those extra times before they would go to 6 months for her. Now we are back in the UK.....I might ask for a good cleaning once a year.

I was chatting with someone today about donuts and remembered how much I miss proper American donuts!

It could be worse, it could be those cake-like donuts! If you want a cake texture, eat cake. I would rather have that plain glazed donut one every time.

Hey!! In my younger days I very much liked caked donuts. Heavy as hell those things were. But then again....I used to like maple bars.....

Ooh, raised donuts with chocolate and tons of sprinkles (the rainbow jimmies). I would do a lot for one... The one's they sell here that sort of look like them just aren't the same. Hmm, maybe my mom could bring me one when she visits...

If you but a glazed (plain) Krispy Kreme donut in the microwave for 7 seconds it's like it came fresh out of the fryer... Or if you leave them in your dark grey car in a Colorado summer's day it does the same thing. haha.

I don't eat them much, but I would love one of the ones that are light and airy inside with chocolate frosting. We called them French doughnuts, I have no idea if that's the right term lol.

You'd either be talking about a raised (yeasted) doughnut or possibly a crueller (which is also a type of raised doughnut).

A French doughnut sounds absolutely filthy.  I would not search for that on Google without wearing rubber gloves.

I just read that whole page and now I really want about 5 different kinds of doughnuts. And I've got easy access to none. Sad times for this Londoner.

I'd settle for a bag of Sweet Sixteen powdered.

It's one of my good friends as well. When we were working together I'd pick him up a donut on Saturday mornings if I got one for myself. :)

I do too. I'd love a cinnamon twist or quite a few others, none of the filled ones though... I'm not a fan of most US pastry cremes...

I really want doughnuts now.  Have the day off, and nothing sounds better than curling up with a big mug of coffee, a doughnut, and a good book.
