Cilango at London Wall is running some specials for Cinco De Mayo, various food is £5

Here's some pictures of my lunch

Here's the alter they have downstairs in the basement, complete with real neon sign.  Sorry the pics are so terrible!

I find that quite amusing. Cinco de Mayo is a military victory over France in the battle of Puebla. It's noted in Mexico but it's not that significant outside of the city of Puebla. I don't think I've ever celebrated it and I am half Mexican. Cinco de Mayo is more of an American celebration. The 16th of September is Mexico's Independence Day.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed your burrito at Chilango (that's what people in Mexico City are called, in case you were interested). £5 lunch is a good deal and worth celebrating any day. I hope they had margarita specials too

Thanks Lorena!  I've always wondered about that name and I'm really happy to find out what it means.

I've only celebrated Cinco de Mayo in Tucson Az so thanks for filling me in on my history as well!

I remember in Tucson there were guys roasting corn on the cob still in the husks.  When you bought it, they would pull back the husk and dip the whole thing in a pitcher of liquid butter.  Then roll it in Parmesan cheese.  Lord help me.

Who could ever seriously think we need a wall if it's going to put a stop to things like that?  What an idiot.

I bet you had to be hosed down after gnawing on one of those.

The beer washed it all away

Oh, I'm Homer Simpson drooling here! I have missed eating "elote" in my hometown of El Paso (just a hop-skip-jump from Tucson). I hope you had the version that was also rolled in cayenne/ chile powder and lime juice. Oh yeah, washed down with a beer...

Just an FYI--There's a fence/wall that extends from southern New Mexico and past El Paso. It was up several years ago.

I was in Wales last week and the cafe where I was having lunch was providing 'Mexican' food for Cinco de Mayo - but on the 4th of May   [smiley=huh2.gif][smiley=oops.gif]
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

That's ridiculous, everyone knows that the 4th of May is Star Wars day.

Not tried that place before! Might need to check it out some time as I absolutely LOVE buritos/tacos/etc.  :)

I found Mission Burrito is quite good for the price and I actually saw a Chipotle in London last Friday! I'm sure I'm the last person to know about this (and I don't think it's the best burrito place), but I didn't realise they had locations over here! haha

If the Chipotle was the one at London Wall, you were just down the road from Cilango.  I'm lucky to have both right next to my work.  I don't go to Chipotle often, mostly stick with Cilango.

I really like Mission Burrito as well.  I had a long email exchange with the owner, tried to convince them to put in a deep fryer so they could make home made nachos and fry those burritos to make Chimichangas.

We were in London, but over by King's Cross Station
