It's sort of cold today....
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I meant to update....I broke my hedge shears.

What can you do?

But this brings up a thing I have about gardening. It snowed three weeks ago in Cambridge. It was a flurry....but still. Today is chilly and dark and damp.

I don't think gardening should start until it is full-on, solidly warm. But my neighbours run out there as soon as the first blue bell pops up.

Now admittedly, my theory, when taking British Spring into consideration, may mean doing nothing until mid-July.....

haha, great theory!

I much prefer winter gardening, I can really get down to tidying up and I can see the difference. By the time the warm weather comes, the weeds just seem to get the better of me, I decide there's no way I can keep on top of them and basically give up on the whole idea until it's winter again!

My personal goal is to get round each bit of the garden at least once a year!

My garden is small and I keep it functional. My problem, really, is my neighbour. His should be in the Royal Garden Show or something. It's all geometric, every line straight-edged. Little thoughtful corners with layered spills of hanging things.

I feel like a pair of old brown shoes with a tuxedo.

Listen I've been very lucky lately with neighbours. Even on the other side, there's a family of musicians....I found them googling my village.....and there the whole bunch was on youtube doing a Burt Bacharach medley at the community centre...South American Getaway from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid:

They had on matching turtle-neck sweaters....which made me giddy.

That made me a little nauseous actually!

Co-incidentally, tonight's Chelsea update is celebrating the work of small garden designers! (BBC2 8pm)
