NI Number: How long does the interview take?
« on: May 30, 2016, 01:37:00 PM »
Hello! I was wondering if anyone knows how long the average NI Number interview takes? I already have a job offer, I have a Tier 4 Visa, and don't have a criminal record. Should I plan for about an hour? Thank you very much!

I can't remember for sure, but I think mine took about that. You should get an appointment slot, but I think I still had to wait a bit to be seen. After they check your docs and fill out the form for you, they make copies of everything (iirc).

Since you could be waiting for a while to be seen, I'd allow at least an hour.

Hey!

I did mine in 2014 and I would plan for about an hour. It really depends on how 'on time' they are. I think the actual appointment took about 20-30 minutes. It's basically them filling out a form for you and making copies of your passport, BRP card etc. If your spouse isn't going with you you do need to have some of their information, like NI number but I can't remember what else they need of theirs...

Oh, it will take about a month before you actually get the NI number. Mine took about 4 weeks to arrive.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I'm assuming your visa was issued outside the UK if it's a tier 4. If that's the case, you probably won't have to do an interview. You call and they send you the forms and you send them back. I didn't have an interview for mine and I got one while on a tier 4 issued outside the UK.

I just did mine in March and it took about an hour and half. They kept seeing everybody before us, so eventually we spoke up. Then it took about two and a half weeks to receive it in the mail.
