filling American prescription
« on: June 29, 2016, 02:03:26 PM »
My parents are planning to come over to visit for several weeks this fall as I'm due to have a baby. My mom is concerned about being able to get her blood pressure and cholesterol medications filled, apparently her insurance company is balking at filling them for more than one month at a time (even though she explained that she's going abroad). If she brings a copy of her prescriptions, could she get them filled here if she pays out of pocket?

I wouldn't risk it.

Will they do more than a month if she orders by mail?

+1

As long as I can remember our insurance company has pushed members who are on long term medication such as BP meds to get them by mail in amounts of 90 days at a time. (Express Scripts is who we use through our  insurance company BCBS).

It is cheaper for both the company and individual which is why they prefer it.
