A few questions
« on: August 21, 2016, 02:06:27 PM »
Hi everyone!

So, I've been approved to come and stay in the UK until June 2019. Very exciting !!

I do have a few random questions that came to mind and thought I would consult all you experienced folks. :)

1) I am still legally using my maiden name. I would like to change my name after making it to Scotland , but how do I really do that ? Will that be a problem when it comes to my passport or BRP? Do I have to let the home office know once it's done ?

2) the address on the visa application is not where we are going to live. We're in the process of buying a house .... Do I have to tell them about the address change ? Or does it not matter Til I do the FLR(M) in June 2019?

3) I am going over to the UK during my 30 day entry window and will stay a couple weeks before returning to the US  to finalize things before the big move. I will keep track of all my travel outside the uk but is there really no limit about time you can spend out of the country, as long as I make my home with my spouse in the uk ?

I'm sure there is more but this is a good start. Thanks so much !

1) you can just start using your new name on everything in Scotland, even if you don't change it on the visa. If you want to change your name on your passport you will also need to change it on the BRP within 3 months (or you can be fined £1,000) which costs £223. So you can just keep the passport and visa in your maiden name and use your married name for everything else.

2) I think you need to inform them of a change of address - I can't remember if it's necessary. You can check on the UKVI website though in the BRP section

3) nope, no limit - you just have to show you have lived together with your spouse for the entire length of the visa. It can even be in another country as long as you are together. What you shouldn't do is spend long periods of time living apart unless there's a good reason (working abroad, military deployment etc.).
