Heathrow Terminal 5

I'm going to the US to visit my parents next week, and am flying from Glasgow to Heathrow to Dallas.

My flights are BA, and both arrive and depart from Terminal 5, according to the Heathrow website.

The thing that's got me a bit concerned is that the website says it will take 1 hour to make this connection (from one part of terminal 5 to another part of terminal 5).  I'm a slow walker, but still...!!!  An hour?  My Glasgow flight arrives at 10:30 and my Dallas flight leaves at 12:00, so if it takes an hour to get from the arrivals area to the departure gates of Terminal 5, that leaves very little time for anything else (getting a magazine, bottle of water, going to toilet, etc)

Has anyone done this, and how long did it REALLY take?

Terminal 5 is big but not THAT big.  Being that you are boarding for a long haul, you won't have much time to shop, so I'd bring what you want for your second leg. 

There's always the option of booking specia assistance and having the golf cart thing drive you.  No shame in that!

How do I book this?  I have a bad knee on one side, and a bad ankle on the other, so this could really help me!

Contact your airline.  You can likely do it under 'manage my booking' online and select special assistance.

My mom injured herself when my parents were here this summer and we booked it for them for the first time.  She said it was fabulous.  They even asked her if she wanted to stop to get snacks and water for the flight.

We are just back from our trip to Boston... we were flying from Edinburgh to LHR to Boston.  The first flight from EDI to LHR arrived at the A gates and our flight to BOS left from the B gates and yes you need to leave an hour.  we had to walk from gate A4 to the transit tram that takes you to the B gates, when you get off the transit tram you have to walk the length of the B terminal to get to the gates for the US flights, it is quite a walk.  I requested special assistance and we were met at the door of our flight from Edinburgh and were taken to the departure gate at the B gates by golf cart. We made a stop for the rest room and to pick up some water and a snack and to get a magazine and a paper. It was well worth getting the help..

Are you going through customs at Heathrow? Then you'll definitely need at least an hour. I hate Heathrow customs so much that we fly via Amsterdam or Paris instead. Though Heathrow is nothing compared to international connections at O'Hare, aka the Seventh Layer of Hell.

There's no need to go through customs after a Glasgow to Heathrow flight... It's like a US domestic flight.

we went through immigration at Heathrow, if you request special assistance they take you through immigration and it takes no time at all.  As my spouse (US Citizen) was traveling with me(dual citizen) we were able to use the UK/EU line so was much shorter than the non-UK/EU line..
