Couple of questions
« on: September 16, 2016, 03:29:34 PM »
I'm waiting around for my visa ( day 54 since received at Sheffield ) so trying to get a grasp on my taxes.  I am planning on filing with turbo tax or equivalent when the time comes.  Is this easy to do? I'm pretty straight forward, worked at Walgreens this year, planning on working in a hospital if I can ( going to try and put my surgical tech degree to work) no property or investments.
Do I need to file a certain number document, the h & r block lady said the 2530 or something?
I'm assuming we're going off the us tax timeline? And I also read living overseas we can get an extension if needed?

Now for more difficult issues that may be not possible to answer on here.  My husband contracts himself out and therefore owns his own company he is wondering what is Fatca and how does it affect me?  (Absolutely no idea what this means, he just told me to ask)
Does it mean I can't take dividends from my husbands company?

Thanks for the advice just clueless as far as taxes go, I usually just take to h&r block and they do everything.

Until the experts come along, here is a little reading on FATCA for you.

Is your husband a US person? Do you own shares in his company? Look at Form 5471 if you do as you will need to file this each year.

He's not a US person.  I don't own shares, don't even know if there are any.
