Recent Expat
« on: September 23, 2016, 01:59:08 PM »
Hello all! First, thanks for this great site! I moved here from Baltimore, MD to hopefully pursue a PhD. I am in the process of conversion courses at the University of Stirling now so that I can apply to start the PhD next year. Bit of a gamble, but the last 3 weeks here has already made it worth it. Hope you are all enjoying your time in the UK!

We went to Stirling this summer when my parents were visiting.  Fabulous city.  I hope to go back, as we didn't get to see everything (including the monument!).

@KFdancer  Stirling is beautiful! If you come back, please let me know. I've already done a couple of gorgeous hikes here that you won't readily find online.

A close family friend is the former provost of Stirling, so we had "backstage" access to things for the day which was really cool.... right up until my mom missed the last step on a staircase and broke her leg!  She's still stuck in a cast back home in the US, so Stirling has had lasting memories to say the least.   ;)

Would that be on a Tier 4 visa? Or are you in the UK on a spouse visa?

No spouse visa, I'm not married. I am here as a student.

Welcome to Scotland and the forum. :)

I'm in Fife, one of the villages between Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.
I've been in Scotland since 1999 started on work permit and climbed the immigration ladder (much easier years ago) Have had dual citizenship for many years now.

Thanks so much!
I'm hoping to climb the immigration ladder as well. I'm hoping Brexit will actually make things easier for me, but it could just as easily go the other way.  Fife is a beautiful area.

Thanks for the welcome!
