my new love: Bubble Tea
« on: November 19, 2004, 10:04:23 PM »
I have always wonderd what it would taste like.  And oh my god, was mine amazing.

i had a pineapple cocunut one.  it was like a pina coloda with no booze and with these little dark balls in the bottom you suck up with the straw (tapioca balls).

Heaven. I'm in love.  Try them next time you're out for chinese.

amazing!

Sounds like something I need to try.  Let you know if they are served in Chelmsford,Essex, if not what a great reason to travel to London ;)

I have eaten in countless chinese restaurants, in London and other places in the UK, and i've never seen or heard of these things.
I wonder if it's something new?

Not new in the US, I first had it in CA about 5 years ago, and have had it in NY as well, it's all over there.  But it might be new and up and coming here.  We will have to wait for Amy to tell us where she had it.

There are a few Chinese restaurants in chinatown/soho in London that have the Bubble Tea!  I'm trying to remember the name of the road...(one of the roads parallel with Shaftesbury Ave to the south) but they have posters up in the windows with the tea. It's becoming really popular!

I'd love to know where Amy got hers, too- I've mostly seen fruity ones and I see choccie in her picture  ;D yum!

Yeah! It was HUGE in San Fran around then, Stacey! I remember there were articles in the paper about it and everything - lots of pictures of little Asian girls in China Town drinking them after school! I'd actually sort of forgotten about it until now - I never tried it myself, but on such an enthusiastic recomendation, I may have to!  :D

Anne, you have to go!!!  They are so yummy.  The Milk Tea ones are the best.  My first one my two friends I was visiting brought me to China Town (Might have been Tiwanese town though) in LA and watched me drink it, seriously they were so excited I was finally trying it!!!  It was a Thai Iced tea one too, and that I think might have been the best one I ever had, Thai Iced tea is so yummy!!!   I was into the Jasmine Green or black tea ones in NYC near where I lived.

Ooh, I love Bubble Tea!  :D I forgot all about it. They served it once at my university dining hall back in Boston and it was divine. I'd love to find a place here in Scotland that serves it.
Plans on hold 'cuz Brexit

Oh, I miss me some really good bubble tea :)  I had the best at Ten Ren in Chinatown -- I think there are two stores on the same street on Mott St.!  But, yeah, I don't really like the milk teas...do they sell the plain flavored teas?
