Is it okay to purchase just a round trip flight?
« on: October 28, 2016, 06:09:18 AM »
I have just received my settlement visa and have been researching flights. I have been noticing that the one-way flights are very pricey and I would also like to visit my family this summer after I get my Leave to Remain visa  Is it okay to purchase a round trip ticket even though I will be entering in with a fiancee settlement visa?

Congrats on receiving your visa :).

Yep, it's perfectly fine - a lot of people do this because it's usually cheaper.

You can either just not use the return ticket or you could use it for the flight back to the US for your visit.

Thanks for the reply ksand24! Its been such a long time coming but it is finally reality. I have not left my place of employment because I work with vulnerable individuals for a non for profit and it is going to take a week or two for my client to transition to a new worker. I am leaving to be with my fiancee the first week of December and he is very understanding because of the work that I do.  :)

Go for the RT fare; done that a good few times.

Do your return flight a few months out - about the time you might visit the US. You might use it, or worst case, you dump it. I once use a return bit for a quick trip to the US - had booked a return >6 months after the UK flight. I actually managed to find a cheap one-way flight to come back to the UK, so it all worked out nicely.
Married December 1992 (my 'old flame' whom I first met in the mid-70s)
1st move to UK - 1993 (Letter of Consent granted at British Embassy in Washington DC)
ILR - 1994 (1 year later - no fee way back then!)
Back to US in 2000
Returned to UK July 2011 (Spousal Visa/KOL endorsement)
ILR - September 2011
Application for naturalization submitted July 2014
Approval received 15-10-14; ceremony scheduled for 10 November!
Passport arrived 25 November 2014. Finally done!
