I'm starting to think they made that letter up. When I spoke to them yesterday they didn't even mention any letter being sent to my address.

And I'm almost 100% positive we didn't leave out any of the paperwork. We spent two months going over it, and had friends go over it as well. We did forget to include two of our bank statements, but that was out of the 11 we had already included and we sent the missing two via recorded delivery with a letter explaining what they were. It says they received them less than a week after we had sent off the original application.

I received my biometrics letter so quickly, I guess I just naively assumed it would be an easy road because of that.

The biometric letter is triggered automatically after they receive your application.  So it's not an indicator that anything is processing quickly or anything.

It's possible (and likely) the missing bank statements are slowing things down.  It's *very* unlikely the additional delivery was actually matched up to your original application.   :-\\\\

I'd really pursue the MP route.

Yeah, I think we've already accepted we'll have to contact our MP.

What should we say when we contact him? And should we send him a letter, call his offices, or visit him in person?

Thanks for your help.

And not to be paranoid, or cynical, but we are a same-sex couple. Do you think that would factor in to it at all?

Nope, same-sex couple applications are treated in exactly the same way as mixed-sex applications. As long as you meet the requirements and you sent all the documents, the visa will be granted.

Just explain it as you have to us. The MP will be familiar with UKVI.  I'd put it in an email.

I wouldn't worry too much though, our FLR(M) took around 15 weeks but it came though eventually!

It's definitely nothing to do with being a same-sex couple and most likely everything to do with those missing bank statements.

Sending anything late and separately from your application means they won't be matched together as Larrabee said. Basically you randomly sent some paperwork to the bulk mail area and are expecting people to be able to match it to an application that hadn't even been started yet.

When I was missing a bank statement they asked me to send it to a specific address with a specific reference number on it to make sure it ended up in the right place.

Just contact your MP.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
