I mean...I didn't want to be the one to say it....but it was definitely hard for me to imagine a person being allowed a full-size BBQ grill as a carry on. Perhaps it was a small, fold-up one?

Goodness, it was not a carry on as it was 18" diameter. So you can only imagine the size of the box. If you're going to bring one from Texas, you're going home with the big box. Heck, they didn't even sell little table top grills at B&Q in the '90's (I would have been happy with it) so I made sure that 18" was coming with me. Admittedly, I did not use it much because buying charcoal for it was difficult. When I last worked for someone else ('96-97), I worked for an American company and they sent over fixings so the employees could celebrate July 4th every year. They sent over massive boxes of charcoal for their BBQ. I ended up taking all their surplus charcoal. By 2002, I found tabletop grills, propane grills at Bent's Garden Centre in Cheshire. I guess I was there too early. I went back last year and you can get so many things that I wouldn't be dragging anything major with me now.

I was honestly really curious how the heck you managed to get that on the plane as a carry on or something! Glad you clarified that! lol

All that BBQ talk reminds me of our neighbors who moved here from Texas.  Into our terrace of tiny houses.  They unpacked this MASSIVE BBQ and then found they couldn't get it through the front door, which was the only way to the back garden.  I think they had to take it apaart

So we went to Five Guys on our trip to FL last week, even though we have one locally here.  They are good for my allergy family.  We learned that our two year old is CRAZY for peanuts (fortunately no peanut allergy).  She didn't eat her hotdog.  Just sat there cracking nuts and eating them the whole time.

My aunt had sent my dad a basket of Virginia peanuts for Christmas... he made the mistake of getting those out...  bye bye expensive peanuts!

Nope.  I was in Clearwater which isn't "the south" (unfortunately).

Though boiled peanuts would have been good.  For some reason my mom doesn't grasp the concept that my kid can actually chew food (she's going on 3 for crying out loud).  I lost count of the number of times my mom shoved her hands in my daughters mouth to pull an offending piece of food out.   ::). Boiled peanuts would have saved my mom a LOT of anxiety!!

My husband and I discovered a BBQ place in town that has a smoker imported from Omaha.. and does St. Louis style ribs. It was spot on and great BBQ. Only took me a year to find lol

I had an uncle from Florida and moved to Iowa with my aunt. Couldn't find boiled peanuts in Iowa so we always shipped them to him, they look vile to me.

https://www.tumblr.com/blog/expatabroad

Not blogged effectively in a while to be honest. It ends up a lot of selfies of me/me and husband/the dog. I started it because I wanted to blog when I felt homesick or feeling like I was dealing with tough crap relating to immigration but then I also decided i might be fun to post on day trips/weekend trips/holidays/etc. and then that turned into just whatever I was getting up to. Writing definitely took a back seat to pictures (or sometimes it's crap writing because I'm writing like I'm thinking/talking haha) and I have tons of posts I meant to post and never got a chance to. This year, hopefully, I'll be more active with it (and in a more properly written way). It doesn't help that I have tons of different blogs that I started with different purposes and then just periodically go through phases of updating alternating with silence haha

Ermahgahd! I was walking on campus and they were having some sort of food stall fair or something, and there was a stall selling proper donuts! I had a cinnamon glazed CAKE donut, and it was heavenly! Unfortunately (or fortunately?), they don't seem to be local, so I will need to keep an eye out for when they are next on campus.
