Double red from here: http://www.realseeds.co.uk/sweetcorn.html

(Going to try the multi-coloured one next year!)

And yellow corn from here (mine doesn't get too yellow or plump, but tastes awesome):

I think the paler coloured corn tastes sweeter and is more tender than the yellower stuff.  :)

Still on gardening, but shifting slightly -

Has anyone tried to grow mushrooms? I had a kit in SoCal that yielded lots, but I want to try it without the kit part. I know that there are certain types (oysters, I think) that will grow on spent Starbucks coffee grounds that you can get for free, but the Daughter really likes the white button-type mushrooms. All of the literature about which says I need horse manure to grow. Not wanting to have horse manure in my front closet, I thought I'd try some  enriched compost, and have ordered some mushroom spawn....

Yes, I've grown mushrooms.  It's fun.  I want to try again soon.  Compost should work.  Good luck  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

'Tis the season!  Actually, I'm moaning about the rain, but it's doing wonders for the garden. Much better than last year, but probably not as good for the tender veg.

Who's growing stuff this year?

Trying! Have a small variety of courgette in one pot, very happy pak choi, asparagus peas and purple beans in some others, and 3 varieties of cherry tomatoes. So far the "chocolate cherry" is the happiest and grown the most. Salad greens took off and went to seed, so I'll have to start over on those.

I was a bit late but I've planted French beans, beetroot, salad greens and garlic chives from seed.

The beans are not doing too well. Except for a few which are going as expected,  they are coming up then dying  before their main leaves sprout so I've started some more in pots.

Strawberries from a couple of years ago look like they are going to crop nicely, the later varieties seem to do better for me.
Rasps coming on too and gooseberries. Rhubarb did well but it's foolproof!

Fruit trees are very poor this year, I don't have one plum or greengage on any of the trees. I had literally one pear but it's gone now and I've only noticed a very few apples. There are a handful of cherries but the birds always get to them first anyway!   ;D

very happy pak choi,

Oooh, is it not difficult? Did you find plants or grow from seed? I love it but never buy it because it's just too expensive for the little amount you get in the supermarkets!

Pak choi/bak choi is very easy to grow from seed. Grow like lettuce though, little and often in sowing. It will bolt in heat (not that we have that problem often in Scotland, ha)

Brilliant! Thanks PB! Looks like I've still got time this year!  :D

Plenty of time. It overwinters really well, even up here in the Highlands. Doesn't mind being covered in snow.
