I've just heard some disturbing news from a friend in the UK.
Is it true that credit history here in the US isn't considered in the UK?  I'm very worried as my husband and I will need to find our own accommodation eventually, sooner rather than later and none of this will be possible unless landlords can check our credit history  ???
Met for the first time 2012
Married in the US May 2014
Biometrics for husband 12th June
Package mailed priority  to Sheffield 13th June
Email confirmation from Sheffield 16th June.
Decision received 11th July 😀 17 BD

Yes, I believe your friend is correct about that.
It is still possible to secure rented accommodation though, you may just find you need to pay several months rent (I've read 6) in advance.

Ok thank you for that information, I guess the whole rent in advance thing is dependent on the agent handling the rentals, I'll just have to spend time checking that out.

Maybe have a look here, in the housing section of the forum, you may find some similar situations to your own.   http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?board=56.0

From what I've read here on the forum over the years, 6 months of rent seems standard if you have no credit history in the UK, but you never know.

Ksand24...thanks for your input..,its just a concern for us at our age to take such a huge step if letting agents won't accept us. I hadn't stopped to consider that US credit scoring wouldn't mean diddly squit to UK agents 😣...
We will have a letter of reference from our present landlord (we will have lived here 4 years in June) bank statements etc to show, and 6 months rent in advance wouldn't be a problem, but it's worrying that no one is saying it's a definite!

From what I have read, with the ability to pay 6 months rent in advance and a good reference, I don't think you'll have any trouble in finding a place to live.

Even new arrivals with pets manage to find homes to rent (and pet ownership does limit your options a fair amount.)  :)

Once again thanks for your input, that's very comforting to know.

I wonder if you could help me with  what format my sponsorship letter, re my husband should take and also does he need to write one for himself to accompany the form?

You're welcome!

Your husband does not need to write a letter unless there is anything in particular that he needs to explain in more detail than there is room for in the additional information section of the application.

Your sponsor letter should address the requirements and how you meet them.

Mention that you're a UKC ( and thus able to sponsor him), a short paragraph about your relationship and why you are moving back to the UK.

How you are meeting the financial requirement and the proof you are including to evidence that.

Where you plan to live initially and your plans for after that.

That's pretty much it.

Larrabee you always make things so much easier for me 😊 maybe I shouldn't keep thinking so far out of the box all the time lol...seriously, thank you once again.
I've almost got all the documentation to accompany the forms, when this is completed I'll post you my list if that's ok?

I'm not sure if this is something that has been mentioned earlier in this thread but if either of you has been married before, you will need to provide the divorce certificate(s) as evidence.

Thank you for mentioning that but that's something I was familiar with when my husband sponsored my immigration here.   ;)
