Our package's tracking says it was received at Sheffield at 7:30 this morning. How long does it usually take to get an email confirmation?

I got my email within a few hours of tracking showing arrival.  But if I recall, didn't your attorney send the package to Sheffield?  They may send the email to your attorney rather than to you.

I'm British, married to my American wife. Docs received email: April 5th. Priorty spouse app. Still waiting as of today(22nd). With recent bank holidays, only been 10 working days technically.

One thing I would draw everyone's attention to which will not be obvious to Americans yet to fully experience living in the UK, is the following:  The 8th-23rd April is when all kids are off school. Young professionals like me without kids who continue to work through this period notice a huge difference in the traffic. It feels like the country shuts down. A lot of parents take their holiday leave, often going on holiday abroad. They get fined if they take kids on holiday inside the school term. I do not expect that the UKVI Sheffield office of ECO's are immune to this. Not only that, but Visa fees jumped by 400 dollars as of April. Priority fee also jumped 100 dollars. It is reasonable to expect that there was a jump in applications received from people who were aware of the fee increase and had planned to avoid it. So what I'm saying is, of all the months in the year that will be distorted in terms of processing times - April would be it, due to the perfect storm I mentioned above. Come the 24th April, I would expect the Sheffield office would have a full team back in place and we can expect to see processing rates return to what are expected, but bearing in mind they may be returning to a backlog of applications with a lot of catching up to do!

Of course this is still a guess, but I would contend it is at least an educated one. Oh how I wish an ECO - current or former, would show up on these forums and give the lowdown on what goes on inside that office!

While it is true that the school holidays may mean less staff in April, don't expect the processing times to suddenly speed up from next week or anything. Apr/May is when the processing times usually start to get longer and it seems to have started early, in March, this year.

This is just the start of the busy season and it only gets worse from here.

Normally processing times are shortest in Jan/Feb, then they increase in March/April and keep increasing right through the summer... they likely won't speed up again until Sept or Oct now.

In May you start getting the summer rush and by June/July you're looking at potentially 1.5, maybe 2 months for priority and 3-5 months for non-priority (using last summer's figures).

The quickest times of the year to apply are in Jan/Feb and around Oct/Nov. The rest of the year is pretty busy, with the longest processing times usually between June and September.

As processing times get longer, are the people like me who applied end of Feb still in with a chance of hearing back at around the 8 week mark? Because although it's starting to get super busy, we got ours in just before the rush? So our applications should be close to the top of the pile with the rush filling up below? (Excluding priority of course).

I only ask because we have a close family wedding coming up and I so want him to be here for it! It's been 8 weeks so I'm praying it could be any day now.

You forget that all the non family people want to take holidays when the kids AREN'T on break and there are 2 bank holidays in May that tons of people use to make the best of their holiday allotment and that the weather is warming up. And then the summer holidays start and parents take more annual leave...

Add that in to all the people applying after schools are on summer holiday and trying to get here before the new school year and May-September becomes super busy.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

No idea, I'm afraid - the processing times this year are already much longer than normal, likely due to Sheffield taking on applications from a number of new countries in February and March 2017.

Usually applications submitted at the end of Feb would be about 2 weeks priority and 4 weeks non-priority... and you don't see 4-5 weeks priority and 8+ weeks non-priority until May/June onwards.

Mid-June. I wanted to be back about a week before so he can take the time off.

Ah yeah forgot about the upcoming May bank holidays, good point. Well sounds like we managed to get in before it gets super busy. Really hoping to hear this week for a result. My wife is really struggling to cope, she's bi-polar, albeit medicated and suffers depression. Ironically the closer we feel like we are getting to hearing from UKVI the more she is struggling to keep control, the whole oh so near yet so far feeling. The waiting is truly the worst part lol

Coincidentally Im in the exact same situation. My wife also has bi-polar and is in a depressive phase. Having to leave the country in order to apply has made things worse, but with the magics of the internet, were able to stay well connected. Just remember, you and her are not alone. It'll get better.
