Just popping up to say that anyone visiting the UK can use A&E and urgent care centres for free. So in the event of a sprained ankle or a moderate illness - pop over to your local urgent care centre and you're able to (legally) use it for free without any repercussions or an expensive bill.

I'm terrified too! I hope someone who has experienced this maybe can have some insight? Otherwise just wait and see I suppose.

Do NOT worry.  As long as you don't have an outstanding bill with the NHS for £500 or more, your visa will NOT be refused.  It's super simple to misinterpret the questions.  Should you have marked yes?  Yes.   ;)  But it's not going to be classed as deception or anything else.  It may confuse the case worker a bit when they check the system and see that you are already set up with the NHS and have, in fact, used the system.  But it's not going to affect the result of the application one little bit.  Don't lose any sleep!!!!

Thank you. I am just a little annoyed with that hotline I called for over a pound per minute! He told me to mark 'no'.

Oh yes, you should always do the opposite of what they say.   ;D

I found UK Yankee based on the incredibly bad advice I received from the call line.  :)  It's a common theme that has lasted many years.

Only for the initial care you get at the A&E, if there is any follow up needed you'd need to pay for that. Once you leave A&E you are liable for any costs, like if they move you to another area of the hospital. (I was just there on Thursday and was moved to another area for another 8 hours.)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

This is news to me! One insufferable stranger lectured me (publicly) about using the NHS (which I didn't) and not paying for it. He was wrong of course, but I did think visitors had to pay for treatment with NHS.

In other news...what is this about emailing UKVI to tell them we paid priority? We put it on the outside of the box, and the priority receipt was on the top. What else do we need to do? Which email, and do we send both priority receipts?

Finally got confirmation email from Sheffield today!

That's usually the case. Although the doctors and other staff do have some discretion. My husband had a crazy ear infection but the specialist in A&E didn't have the equipment he needed and told us to return the next morning to another department. My husband was seen the next morning by the same lovely doctor and had a procedure done. He was then booked in for a week later for a follow up. We weren't asked to pay a thing, the reception staff didn't mention anything about payment and we never received a letter asking for him to pay either!

I believe that discretion was taken away with one of the more recent changes.  That did used to be the case in the past.

Always best to just travel with insurance, no matter where you are in the world.  No surprises and you can always be treated!

You don't do anything else!  You've done exactly what you were supposed to do.  Now you sit in the waiting room and wait for your name to be called.   ;D

Its always the guys, isn't it?  My husband seriously thinks he's the healthiest man walking the earth.  Meanwhile he has an autoimmune disease amongst many other things...   ::)

It is! It's probably best that way though because I'm something of a hypochondriac. So we kinda balance each other out.

Sorry to hear that about your husband - it is great he remains positive about his health though!

Silly question: who signs children's applications? Either parent will do?

Yes, though I'd be inclined to have the parent who will receive the primary Tier 2 ICT as the signature.  Though either will work.   :)
