I'm sure hoping I'm in England by the 29th.

Decision made e-mail: Still waiting

Hope to hear soon, looks like 15 - 20 working days best case scenario considering March decision timelines.

Personally, I think that's a bit optimistic as we're closer to summer rush and Sheffield is now processing more countries.

It's weird how time gets stretched out, isn't it?  I have to keep checking my calendar.  It feels like they've had mine for much longer than they've actually had it.  It feels like a month, but they've only had it a little over two weeks.  I do check my email rather continuously, but I always call it "looking for a miracle".   I have come to despise Friday at 5 pm uk time.  And this weekend is another long bank holiday weekend.  I'm not really looking for news much before mid May.  Hopeful, but trying to keep patient.

:( mid may sounds like a million years away .. realistically its only 3 weeks .. yes time does seem to have slowed to a crawl and its knowing we then have to get him into the UK within 30 days of the date of the visa .. will all be go go go then!

Maybe I'm too new for the anxiously waiting part to hit yet, but I'm not even close to worrying when the decision will come. I'm not expecting to hear anything until late May at the earliest. I'll be THRILLED if I hear earlier, but I've consciously chosen not to look for anything for at least a month.

However, I've now developed a really nasty infection that may require ER and/or hospitalization. (Crossing fingers it doesn't.) I'm in the peculiar gap between my current (previous) US health insurance and going over to the UK. We were just hoping against hope I'd stay healthy, but one ER visit/hospitalization could bankrupt me.

I'm assuming that there's no reason UKVI would expedite our (already priority) application on compassionate grounds. Sad truth is that if my infection goes septic, I'll be too ill to fly to the UK anyway. My wife is beside herself.

I'm assuming there is nothing we can do. My wife called the lawyers but they were out yesterday and the person who answered clearly didn't know what he was talking about (said our visa would be processed in 10 days, which is a laugh).

One thing we've talked about, if I do end up hospitalized with bills I can't pay, is to declare bankruptcy before I go to the UK. If I'm going there anyway, the 7 years of crap credit here wouldn't affect me...but would it jeopardize my visa for the UK?

sorry to hear you are feeling so badly. firstly most places will allow a payment plan so bankruptcy doesn't necessarily need to be the first option. plus you have to be resident in the country to do it, then its a waiting period for your creditors to respond and a court appearance and then another waiting period and then it happens.

if any of your creditors can prove fraud they have a strong case in court and you may not get the bankruptcy anyway. incuring the debt and then not making any payments on it would indeed look like fraud, so I would be very careful about how you handle it.

call the hospital or your doctor. explain the situation and they can either set up payment plans or give you options to help. one solution is if you have a good relationship with your gp they may be able to call you in some antibiotics without being seen if its a previous condition.

be positive! you have a lot of options!

also to answer your question about it following you... no not technically. I've moved to Ireland and had to start edit fresh there, and its the same for the uk starting again from scratch. however I have had friends who took out loans or opened a mortgage abroad be asked for a copy of their us credit report if they didn't have enough established credit..... so I guess it depends what you are going to do when.

I have no answers to your questions, I'm just sad you are ill.  Im in the same insurance boat, and it is a worry.  I had a sinus infection about two weeks back, and went to an Urgent Care and paid cash for both the visit and the prescription over $200 just to get it wiped out so it wouldn't get worse.  So yeah, what if I get really sick is in the back of my mind all the time.  Keep us posted on how you are doing and I'll be sending my shiniest good thoughts.

It would be much, much more sensible to go to a doctor now, get some antibiotics and pay for it than to wait until you're so ill that you require so much treatment that it'll bankrupt you.
If I were your wife, I would be insisting you get treatment and offering to pay for it.
