Yeah, I'm interested in upgrading now. My husband literally just came into some money based on being over taxed on his income so we may have wiggle room now. Was it only for the fiance visa, or did the NY office say for any settlement visa?

Not getting my hopes up. I'd read on the forum it wasn't possible at all to upgrade; but if I can upgrade from a 12 week projected timeline, I'd love that. Also, it'll get me in the UK quicker so I can actually carry on with my life instead of this limbo I'm in....

Even with priority you are looking at 12 weeks timeline, they say you will be placed at the front of the line.. but do not guarantee any shorter amount of time.
Call the New York office... or the query question line. I am not sure for which visa it is and which it is not... Since my fiance spoke to the them, I am not sure exactly what information he received or gave. But it never hurts to ask. Please let them know what kind of visa you are applying for, as upgrading after sending in paperwork may not be available for your visa type.

How is this true? I thought even at the busiest of processing times it was no more than 5-6 weeks for priority.

That is the average time.. but nowhere is that guaranteed is what I mean.

Well there is of course the possibility any visa can takes months but for the most part I was lead to believe 5 weeks during the busy times. You just seemed confident that they would be waiting 12 weeks regardless of paying for priority which confused me

I'm applying for a spousal visa, which is why I asked if it was for settlement or something.

I understand that, but there are some people who paid for non-priority in February and haven't heard back. So it's a piece of mind that it'll be looked at a bit sooner? I may call them this week to see.

That's what it's been running but as it gets closer to summer that can run up to 8-12 weeks priority and I know people have mentioned 5 months wait for non priority. There is no way to know for sure. All we know right now is that it got slower a lot earlier than normal this year most likely because they are processing visas for more countries now.

I heard that it gets ridiculous for the June to September period ugh. Hopefully squeezing in right now will help.

I agree. I hope getting it in before the huge swamp time helps a bit, and it won't be five months.

I believe KFdancer said that last year during the worst waiting times, it was up to 5 months for non-priority but 5-6 weeks for priority. However, she and others have also said that wait times were unusually quick in February this year but now unusually slow (even compared to last year). So, for myself (priority spousal settlement visa) I've decided to hope for 4-6 weeks as a best case scenario and resign myself to up to 8 weeks or more if we're unlucky.

Priority gets your application ahead of all non-priority in line but behind all of the existing priority applications. There will be a huge glut of applications now from people who rushed to beat the price increase April 6, so I would expect the wait to be considerable.

Don't forget, also, that Sheffield is now processing applications for a lot more countries this year than they've ever done before.

whatever it is, take comfort in the fact that the vast majority of the US applications  are approved(think recently someone said 98%) so hopefully this will be the last separation for everyone.

Hope you are feeling better tonight AV, put those feet up and relax!

AV

First off, I hope you're doing better than yesterday.

Second, I wouldn't be surprised if this month was swamped. If I had all my paperwork earlier from the UK, I would have applied before the 6th as well. I'm just worried about going forward from here because I have literally no motivation for anything besides this visa.

I believe they've taken away the option for upgrading to priority after you've applied. As that is what was said on the last post regarding upgrade after the fact. You could previously but it's not an option anymore on the VFS website.

Edit: Ah. Someone contacted the NYC office about it. I bet that will work for awhile at least. ☺

And the 60 business days (12 weeks), that has to do with how long UKVI says you (the applicant) need to wait to contact them as that is their service standard for processing settlement visas. People who have paid for priority don't usually wait that long.

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Yeah, since they introduced the priority service a few years ago, I don't think anyone has waited more than about 6 weeks or so, even during the really busy periods.

It's just that 12 weeks is their official processing target for 95% of all settlement applications, so that's the figure they quoted to you.

Priority used to be a 15-working-day service, but now they just say that the application is put to the front of the line...so they don't have to guarantee processing within a specific time anymore.
