Me, I'm eating lots of fresh corn on the cob. I hear that there's nothing locally grown in England, so I'm getting my fill now. (Barbarians! :P )

;D Someone is telling you porkies. Pork Pies = Lies.  ;D

I grow corn on the cob in my garden. There are loads of 'pick your own' places selling it. Farm shops and supermarkets sell these. A friend in Lincolnshire tells me there are fields of these there,  often used as shelter, and they pick all they want.

You can't get fresher than growing your own, bring the water to boil and then go and pick a few cobs.

I know how hard it can all be, especially if you are coping on your own, but it will soon be sorted.  While I have been waiting I have been making plans for Christmas (!) and am trying to plan a celebration in the UK for when we are both there.  Anything to keep my mind occupied.

YES! I'm already planning my first Thanksgiving dinner in the UK. Can't wait to introduce my British family to it  ;D

I've actually ordered, and had sent to my sister in the UK, a Santa toilet seat cover.  I'm losing my mind, aren't I!

Lots of good info on Thanksgiving on this website.  As the Brit, I am going to need lots of help with that.

Day 25!
Booo! It's hard to see the silence across the board.

I saw someone else mention the visa not being valid right away? What is the deal with that.. how long before I can travel once I get my visa?

Only if, AFAIK, you put a later date on your application itself -- say, you apply in February, put May 15 as your travel date, visa is granted in March -- it won't be valid until that May 15 date. In other words, no need to worry.

We got the visa yesterday.  Husband put down he would be travelling on the 1st July.  The visa is for travel from the 26th June, so he can travel any time after the 26th.

Yeah, ksand had mentioned somewhere they seem to be putting the visa validity from one week before the travel date? Seems odd.

In I'm tampa with family. I graduated from UCF, but in the UK I'll be in Hertfordshire, just North of London. If you want, you're more than welcome to meet up, I'm just gonna walk around and people watch and grab a drink!

Small world! I would love to, but I'm on my own with my 3 kids (under 10!) My out-of-the-house ventures are basically Tijuana Flats and the playground. In a lot of ways I'm grateful that the kids keep me busy and drive me crazy -- keeps me from thinking too much about the visa...although i just received their U.K. Passports yesterday and so now really all I have to wait on is mine. I may start ruminating more next week :(

That's so funny you two are headed to the same city! Nonmerci is the only one I know here headed to Glasgow like me, right? Our house is north of the city.

Haylee we applied on the 20th April - but we are in Saudi Arabia and it was processed in Riyadh.  They needed more info and contacted us giving us a deadline for the documents to be in Riyadh by 3pm on the 18th.  I am guessing there are very very few people having settlement visas processed here.

I'm slightly jealous of people who don't have to process theirs through Sheffield. It seems like they get them a lot quicker.

I can understand that, Haylee.  It was done very fast for us.  I know we are very lucky.

We are going to settle in Southport, Merseyside.  I've been looking to see what is happening there and planning (to keep my mind occupied) for when we arrive.  They will be switching the Christmas lights on in Southport the week before Thanksgiving and the plan is we are going to invite family over and husband will do the cooking.  Our wedding anniversary is in September and I've found an Agatha Christie play that is on that night in the local theatre.  Just trying to plan and focus on the future.

I'm going absolutely crazy here, you guys. I'm a school librarian so my school year is coming to an end. I quit my job, put in my 30 days notice for my apartment and have to be out by May 31st. I'll literally be couch surfing until I fly to Europe on June 11th. I don't know what I'll do if I don't hear back from them - I'll be practically homeless!

I hate, hate, hate being in limbo. My hubby wrote his MP saying that I'll be homeless and jobless if we don't hear back soon and basically all we got back is I'm not running for reelection so you're SOL.

I feel sick every time I think about it and I'm constantly stressed out. It's caused a lot of tension in our relationship too.

I feel exactly the same way and got no joy from MP either (even though I wasn't expecting it because I'm not past week 12 and parliament is dissolved, but I emailed anyway)
I'm going out of my mind at this point. I thought for sure this would be the week I hear. Week 11 non priority, ready for the looney bin
