I'm not a big FB person but since I'm not yet in the position to move back to England just yet (youngest child has two more years until high school graduation), I would love to get to know people on a personal level until I make my move.
I lived in the UK years before social media and in nearly nine years, I met one other American person. It was a very lonely existence but if I got to "know" people a bit and got to know what to expect, things would be easier.
