hey guys! its been while since I've posted! I'm now in London and with my fiancé (YAYYYY!).  I picked up my resident card yesterday and I'm a little confused by it.  The card is good until may 2020, and on the front of the card under 'remarks' it says, "WORK PERMITTED". on the back of the card under 'remarks', it says, "NO PUBLIC FUNDS". I thought that I would get a new card once I switched to a spouse visa, but apparently not since this is good until 2020. After I get my spouse visa, I'm legally able to work right?!

Another question: My US Passport expires in December. Should I go to the US Embassy to get a new passport?? I'm going back to the states in 5 weeks for a wedding and I don't want there to be any issues when I come back into the UK since my passport will be within 3 months of expiring.

thanks friends!!

Start another thread as this is all weird.

You said you paid the IHS fee with your app, so it appears you applied for, and received, a spouse visa.

For a fiancé visa:
No IHS fee
Visa is a six month vignette in your passport
No BRP
No work allowed

Something has gone wrong!

Are you legally married?

Bit of an update: Day 57

When hubby applied for visa, it said he was exempt from IHS. He isnt and solicitor said they would contact him for payment. Today they emailed him twice, slightly different emails but both asking him to pay the IHS.....keeping everything crossed that this means he's approved or something is happening!!

Also, one of the emails came from the British Embassy in Warsaw. He's American but applied from Kosovo. Anyone have any ideas why they have contacted him? Thought all applications were handled in Sheffield.

Just read on another forum from 2015 that they only ask for IHS payment at the first stages, that it doesn't get passed to ECO until payment is made. Really hoping this isnt true :(

That hasn't been the experience here. We have found that requests for payment come just before they return the package and there would be no point in requesting it if they had refused the visa as IHS is refunded if a visa is refused.

I caved on BD day 30 today and called the help line (I know I know I know you can nod your heads in disapproval) and all I got was...  your application has been opened lol (whatever that means) so I enquired further and they basically gave me the same statuses as the tracker provides.... Open. Awaiting Decision. Decided. That was a a waste of a fiver.... There goes my morning coffee down the drain! Hope to hear more NP decisions soon!

Interestingly enough I am looking forward to hearing back from the Home Office minister, my MP (who is lovely) has been in touch with the HO minister to address all of the concerns I have raised (on behalf of EVERYONE) on this forum...
