Hi everyone, I think I know the answer to this, but....Does the count down waiting time start from the time you filled out the application online or from the time Sheffield receives the biometric results? I did my online application 9/22 but didn't get the application out to Sheffield until October 5.

If you are applying from the US the countdown starts from when you get an email from Sheffield stating they’ve received your documents

For those that already received their visa and are now in the UK, can you remember if you were assigned a National Insurance number when you received the Biometric Residence Permit card? Or is that a separate task you need to undertake later?

Separate after you arrive.

You won’t get a National Insurance number on your visa - they are only issued to certain visa types... which I believe are currently only Tier 2 sponsored work visas.

Once you have your visa, you’ll need to apply for a National Insurance number through the Job Centre.

Hi everyone,
Have any of you had to try to decide whether or not to renew a lease on a rented apartment while you were waiting for your visa to come? Did you chance it and have a back up plan, like staying with family, or did you extend your lease to ensure you didn't end up sleeping on someone's sofa? Trying to decide if it's worth taking the risk of paying for rent I don't use. My 55 BD falls on the same day as my lease currently ends. Upward of 35% of decisions are made by that day, but then I still need to get my passports back and it seems like a long shot.
What did you do?
Thanks!

We extended our lease on 3 occasions waiting for our visa during the summer, we heard on 62 days of our decision but it took a further 10 business for our passports to be delivered.  The process is awful and our view is better safe than sorry! Had we known the process was like this we would’ve done everything differently, tbh we would’ve kept everything the same as before we applied for the visa and only ended leases, jobs or made plans AFTER the visas came through the post.

GWF tracker status: not recognised

Are you referring to this?

https://contact-ukvi.homeoffice.gov.uk/app/visa_application/checkvisastatus

Has that ever worked for anyone? I've tried the GWF number, the IHS number. Nothing seems to work.

It only works for applications made from INSIDE the UK.  So it won't work, I'm afraid.
