I wonder why so much later?  May 17th seems way out!

I had requested May 25 as my travel date.  I'm a high school teacher and wanted to finish the semester.  Perhaps they actually took that into account.

I mainly just wanted to get a good reference from my principal and to get paid over the summer when I get there.  Otherwise, I'd leave as soon as I could.

Totally understand that!  I told my boss I would finish tax season here in the States (April 17th this year) and then head over and work from the UK.  My timing wasn't quite as precise as yours! Will you be teaching in the UK as well?

That's the plan.  I already have Qualified Teacher Status for England and Wales and can teach English and history.  I also have ten years experience here in Tennessee, so hopefully I won't have too much trouble finding a job.

They are supposed to start your visa on the travel date you requested, but they usually start it a week before... which is why you have May 17th :).

Hi All,

...a couple of questions and hope someone on this forum may have answers for.

Background information:
My US-citizen wife has been waiting 80 days (Business Days) for a spouse settlement to join me in the UK. On the day 58 we both had phone interviews with ECOs and were informed that we should receive hear from Sheffield soon. However, it has been four weeks since and no feedback. The all situation is obviously painful as my wife and I have not seen each over for over 7 months.

Hence, I have been in touch with my MP who has written to Sheffield in mid-April; He is supposed to get some feedback within 21 working days. But, no feedback thus far.

In the meantime, my Significant Other is getting a second passport and I am wondering whether she would be able to use it to join me temporarily (and the flight back to the US when the settlement visa is approved and then re-enter the UK using primary passport) or she would get in trouble with be border control because of using the secondary passport.

Questions:
1) Do you know of any member of this forum who has come to the UK temporarily on a second password whilst the primary passport is the Sheffield awaiting a spouse settlement visa?
2) Are you aware of any guidance in relation to the above?

Cheers and many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately she cannot travel to the UK on a secondary passport while she has an application pending with the Home Office.

You should have no problem finding a job, the UK is crying out for teachers. The government is advertising teaching as a career on the TV at the moment!  :)

I have never once heard of someone having a phone interview with an ECO... that is very strange.

Is she your wife or a fiance?  You call her both your wife and significant other.  What application did you lodge?

She can obtain a second passport and meet you in a different country (France, for example.) However, if she attempts to enter the UK or Ireland on her second passport it will void the original application and you will not receive a refund.  Plus, she's unlikely to be allowed entry.

Thanks. This is clearly a test of patience.

It is a spouse visa application; we got married in October last year, in Oregon.
Meeting in France is a very good option instead causing the original application to become void.
Many thanks for your feedback.

It's more often reported by applicants from high risk countries.
