Hi

Can I ask for those of you who came on a Fiancé Visa, did you recieve a letter or instructions with your passport. I ask this because my Fiancé is asking me about a resident card that he apprently needs to collect within 10 days when he enters the country ??? (he read it online somewhere) & I am confused as I was not aware of this and he no paperwork that says so.
Can anyone let me know please. Thanks

No, you won’t get a letter with a fiancé visa, because it is only valid for 6 months.

BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) cards are only issued for visas valid MORE THAN 6 months, therefore there is no BRP card for a fiancé visa,  no letter and nothing to collect upon entry.

Fiancé visa = issued as a 6-month sticker in passport

Spousal visa = issued as a 30-day Entry vignette and a 33-month BRP card which is collected within 10 days of arriving in the UK.

Once you are married and have applied for FLR(M), that visa will be issued as a BRP.

The good news is that I got my visa!!! The bad news is that I received it today, and it's "valid" dates are 09/05/19 to 08/06/19... so I have about two and a half weeks to get there. Lots of things to worry about now!

Here's the timeline for anyone curious, and good luck to all who are applying!:

Visa Applied: Standard Spouse Visa
Application Submitted: February 21, 2019
Biometrics: February 27, 2019
ECO Email: April 16, 2019
Decision Made Email: May 16, 2019
Decision/Passport Received: Approved May 20, 2019!!

Total of 56 W/D to passport in hand  :)
~ Visa application: Feb. 21, 2019
~ Biometrics: Feb. 27, 2019
~ Documents received in NY: Feb 28, 2019
~ Assigned to ECO: Apr 16, 2019
~ Decision email: May 16, 2019
~ Outcome: It's a yes - May 20, 2019!!

What a long, strange trip it's been!

You can always come back to the US after you pick up your BRP to tie up loose ends if you need to.  :)

You start counting from the day you had your Biometrics appointment. Good luck!

For US applications you usually count from the date the application and documents are received in New York, because you attend biometrics before you submit the documents.

Do we know if the documents get scanned straightaway? It'll be interesting figuring it all out with public holidays - i don't know whether I should count on US time or UK time since the UK are the ones viewing the application.

Hi all,

A question on the timeline as we're going non-priority as well. We decided we will submit the paperwork while I am in the US in July (to save me posting all the documents), but my OH wasn't planning to move to the UK until after thanksgiving so he could see all his family. If we ask for him to move then (say 25th Nov), how likely is it that the visa vignette will be issued for the requested date? I'm worried that given the current timelines, by submitting in the middle of July, his visa will come through in the middle of October so he would have to move sooner if it's dated from acceptance. We also wanted to do it early and have a later date set as we need to plan for his dog to come over as he has to come within 5 days of my OH, but had to be booked in advance.

Could we push the date by a few weeks by delaying the biometrics? e.g. submit the application in the middle of July while I'm there and then him have his Bio appointment at the end of July/start of August, or is there a time limit for this?

TIA, Kim

They *should* honour the date you nominate (the usually give you a date within about a week of it) but they don't always. To increase your chances, make specific mention of it in the sponsor letter and it might even be worth writing a separate applicant letter also, just to further emphasise it.

Thank you, I'll make sure we emphasise it! I didn't know you could do applicant letter, but sounds like a good idea!

Think my husband's visa is about halfway on the processing scale if I'm counting from the right day we are at 30bd,
I know it can take longer than 60bd because of the summer rush but my nerves are so shot just from waiting this long.

How is everyone else coping?
