I agree. I have no idea what the price of transport between Wokingham and everything else is now cause I really only travel through Reading, but it's extortionate. Especially if I want to ride the bus to the station on top of everything. Which is normally why I walk everywhere.

If I could get a job closer to me I would just to avoid all the travel costs.  ::)

I had previously commuted from my Houston suburb to downtown Houston on the Metro Bus before I moved to England in 1995. It took me an hour each way door-to-door and cost me $35 a month. So, you can imagine my surprise that a bus from Earley Station to London and a tube costing £200 and 1.5 hour commute was terrible. But, the cost now makes my eyes water. I do hope you find something closer to you, for sure.

Totally agree! I sort of described it above but the actual price break down:

At the Reading station, you can buy a "season ticket" for a month of National Rail and Tube services for about £500 a month.

When the daily price of a round trip peak ticket (peak trains travel usually between late 7ish - 9:30 AM and 4-7 PM) is £50 a day. So in two weeks of M-F travel, you'd already meet £500. Buying the travel card is already saving money if you're planning to work in London cause you'd be travelling during peak hours at some point. Monthly price (without travel card): £1,000

Even with the discounted railcard I have, the same daily ticket was £33.50. At the end of the month, you'd spend £670 a month.

So the railcard is a big saver of £170.

Link: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/season_tickets.aspx

I did a load of budgeting at the beginning of this year. £170 is basically our council tax and monthly food budget without splurges. So that's really awesome to save.

Yikes! Thanks for the tips. That was more money that I was expecting it to be for some reason. A quick look through indeed and other job sites, I'm expecting a pretty decent cut to my current pay rate. I'll definitely be looking for something that covers travel expenses. I'll worry about it when I get there I suppose.

No point in worrying about it now. But surprisingly, a lot of places will do some kind of travel scheme. It may not be a lot, but it's something. If not, there are other benefits. One place offered me £100 rebate on if I wanted to take a seminar or class that would benefit my work. That was pretty nice.

Just to update you all, I have now got my local MP involved as we are on day 59 and haven't heard a thing.  The office was very helpful and was keen to get involved.  They are writing to them today so hopefully we should get an answer soon.  I'll keep you all updated.

Help! Following email received from the ECO today (case not straight forward) What do I do?!

"You must confirm at the time of registration that you wish to use your test result for these purposes. The IELTS test result you have provided is not recognised when attempting to verify your results on the UKVI IELTS website. I am therefore satisfied that the test certificate you have provided is not an “IELTS for UKVI” test. Please provide a certificafe to confirm that you have passed an “IELTS for UKVI” test."

Any piece of info would be much appreciated. Could someone send me a link to relevant thread?

Did you take and send a valid "IELTS for UKVI" test certificate?

If not, what test result did you send them?

It sounds like they are asking for your IELTS results/certicate. (http://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/ielts-ukvi/what-ielts-ukvi)

Did you take a test and send off results with your visa?

I took a C1 General Training and sent my original score card with the supporting documents. I should have taken the A1 Life Skills. I was assured by my Solicitor, "the C1 test is far more advanced so the standard required is more than met!". My overall band score is 8 (L:8; R:7.5; W:7.5; S:8.5).

Also, I can't appear for an A1 life skills test. My passport is with the Home Office and it is the only ID British Council checks at the time of examination!

If you speak to the rest center In advance they may accept other ID if you explain. My daughter in law was able to present her US permanent resident card at her A1 life skills test Center in New Jersey because she didn't have her passport

I agree.  I think the first couple of people who tried it got lucky.
