Wanted to follow up...received notice on M, 6/20 that a decision had been made.  Retrieved the package literally off the UPS truck in a Starbucks parking lot on Thursday morning.  Visa was granted  and in the air to the UK by that afternoon!  Whew!!!!  That was quite the ordeal but thankfully prayers were answered and it's behind us now!  Hopeful y'all will all have good news very soon!

Congrats!

All great news ! Congrats Mamakat, eccho, candice America . So happy for you and what a relief Eccho

Guys can you tell whether are you guys getting the visa starting from exactly the date you have given in your application? Or are they choosing on their own ? Specially when things are delayed .
Mamakat for example your visa were already valid and the 30 days thing started running when you received the passport on your hand is not it ? Else you could not travel asap . But what date have you asked for in your application ? Am asking as I have to work out wo K notice etc and really want UKVI to stick to the date I have given in my application but not earlier .any thoughts ?

They usually make it valid for 7 days prior to the requested date, if that date is in the future (which I find annoying as that goes against what they advise).

If your requested date has passed, they usually make it valid for a couple of days after it's granted (so theoretically you have roughly 30 days from when it's received).

Oh  >:( and you can collect your BRP at any time during that 30 days period right ? I mean even on the 29th of that 30 days period ?

And even we might have to plan to collect it and then again go back to USA to sort things at work@usa and then enter uk again for good . It's very time critical planning .
Well most importantly we want to see a decision and a postive one first . Very stressful wait at the moment

Yes, you can collect the BRP for up to 10 days after entry.  It's the entry that needs to happen by the expiration date (30 days).

I can only imagine the nightmare of waiting for ages and then only having a few weeks to get everything sorted.  It's only been that way for the past year.  You used to have three months which was much more reasonable!

Yes, you can enter, pick up your BRP and then return to take care of your affairs.

If you applied from outside the UK

Collect your BRP once you’re in the UK. You must do this before your vignette expires or within 10 days of arriving in the UK, whichever is later.

Check your decision letter. It will tell you to collect your BRP from either:

    a named Post Office branch
your sponsor, if you chose this option when you applied

You must be over 18 to collect a BRP.

On the April Timeline, nonmerci said:

And just a note on picking up the BRP -- UKVI lists a date the BRP will be ready for pick-up, but that date is it seems often arbitrary and inaccurate. Mine was listed as being ready June 3, and it's not ready today -- it seems the post office receives weekly shipments of BRPs, so if you can, try to call before you go in to see if it's ready, rather than wasting time queueing like I did. When I showed the postal worker my letter and she saw the date, she rolled her eyes and laughed and said they are "never right." Just thought I would share.

Not sure how many other people encountered that issue, but I remembered seeing that quote and thinking 'might want to call my Post Office cause the queues are always ghastly...'

And especially since I will have a bunch of stuff to sort myself so I empathise with you a bit. It might just be one less thing for you to be running around and doing.

This uncertainty really makes it hard to plan doesn't it?!!

In my case, I requested a travel date of July 26th and the vignette in my passport I got back yesterday starts my visa from July 19th.

I started a thread on this earlier this month because I had the same stress. KFdancer gives some more historical background in one of the responses too:

Hi everyone can you help? We applied non-priority back in May. Got the email saying docs had arrived 26th May but then we discovered this forum and realised priority is a thing :( Anyway couple of weeks ago we sent an email asking if we could retrospectively (sic) upgrade to priority. Their first response was that it wasn't possible but then yesterday we got this:

'If you opt to pay for Priority service retrospectively please email the Priority Receipt to enable it to be linked to your application.

Please email visasheffield@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk with the required information, ensuring the subject header contains Contact Centre enquiry:'

So we're now at day 24 since they got our docs, do you think it's worth paying for priority? If we did would that just put us at the back of the priority queue? Would we save any time by doing it at this stage?

Thanks in advance.
. I just upgraded to priority today. Documents were recieved in Sheffield June 7th but we started an application to rent a home and now they are asking for my visa so we are under the gun to get it soon! Hoping that they process it as quick as purplepeopleater!!!

What did you include as evidence of accommodation for your visa application? Are you staying with family until you rent the house?

Good luck with the upgrade, it is a big gamble, as you know!  :)

Hey Everyone I just wanted to put it up here incase it helps someone in the future, but I called the US Consulate and they said that I could cross the land border without my passport. I would need to bring other evidence (ie. birth certificate) of my US citizenship and a document showing the Brits have my passport. They told me that the border guards would give me a hard time, but would eventually let me through. I know this is a very unique issue, but wanted to put up my answer just incase.
I hadn't seen your original post, but wanted to let you and anyone else who may be doing land travel to Canada, Mexico or cruises departing from the US that for $30 you can get a Passport Card that works the same as your book but isn't valid for air travel. I purchased one when I renewed my passport for this application because I didn't want to be stuck not able to travel to Canada.

We used my husband's mother's address and had a house inspection done to prove it was big enough. We will only stay there if our house doesn't work out for some reason and we can't find another house to rent right away. It's so frustrating because you can't apply for a visa without accomodation but you can't get accomodation without a visa!!!!!

You don't actually need an inspection report for the visa, just a letter from his mother giving permission to live there (and stating it won't be overcrowded) and her Land Registry document.

People usually meet the accommodation requirement in one of the following ways:

- by staying with family until they can rent somewhere
- by the UK citizen renting somewhere in their name only and including a letter from the landlord stating the visa applicant can live there too once the visa has been granted
- by the UK citizen already owning a house in the UK where they can live together

That's what people usually do.  :)
You didn't need the property inspection report, actually, that's really only necessary for situations like houses of multiple occupation.

You did send her land registry document and a letter from her granting you permission to live there?
