I like pumpkin spice lattes and miss them when I'm here, but I like making filter coffee at home and shaking some pumpkin pie spice into it.  It does taste like Thanksgiving  ;D  This was in the US so I'll have to find pumpkin pie spice or mix my own this autumn.

I've not actually tried to put the spice itself into my normal coffee, but I love pumpkin spice so may need to try this hah

Thought I'd chime in - you can make pumpkin spice mix pretty easily on your own! Granted, I'm not in the UK yet so have no idea how easy these spices are to get there, but when I'm making pumpkin pie I use:
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
It doesn't have pumpkin in it, but I imagine if you mixed a little of that into some coffee you'd be pretty happy. Maybe with a little sugar too?

Dumb question but do you actually put ALL of that in? Or do you only use like 1 tsp of that mixture or something? I might try tomorrow morning :)

Not dumb - I put all of that in the pie, but I would probably mix it up and sprinkle only some of it in a coffee, and then save the rest of it for future coffees!

Miss - Carne Asada burritos the size of my forearm from our local hole-in-the-wall shop on Governor and Genesee in San Diego. Bacon/Cheddar/Chipotle fries from del Taco.  A "double-double" from In-And-Out Burger.... and my 5 Guys Fries.

Only been gone a month, I assume that will all dim over time. Or I'll remember them as better than they actually are.  ::)

LOL... I was just about to say 'FGS, you've only been gone 5 minutes! How can you be missing anything?!'  ;)

You might already be aware of this, but there is a Taco Mazama shop up at your end of Byres Road-- their burritos are pretty nice (and large), even if I don't think of them as authentic.  You've also got Lupe Pintos, just a bus ride along Great Western Road, across the road from St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral.... that's where you can buy corn tortillas, enchilada sauce, salsas, and various other Mexican food-creating staples.  They also have basic bean & cheese burritos in their freezer, and a small deli counter with fresh guacamole (not as good as what you'd make at home, but) and Mexican cheeses and stuff like that.

Hope that helps a bit!

PS- I used to live on Genesee, near UCSD.  :)

Hahahaha, yep, just got here!

But you don't know what a Mexican Food Addict I am.

Daughter says to tell you she knows Taco Mazama and that it's "nowhere near sufficient."  Already found Lupe Pintos, got some Monterrey Jack - very, very bland Monterrey Jack - and tortillas. And PICKLES. OMG, kosher dills.

I would kill for a jar of Claussens.
Okay, kill may be a bit strong, but I would definitely do things.

If you need a regular dill pickle fix, sour and not sweet at all, try Haimisha Dills from Mrs Elmwood. They're £1.50 a jar and they scratch the itch for me. All the other flavours have sugar or sweeteners so it's important to get the right ones.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I have a secret to share. There's another brand, but I've seen it at only one Sainsbury's (at the O2 Centre in NW3). Less than £3 for a kilo bucket of dills. Not sure how many locations carry them, but I demolish them (and the brine, because I'm a shambles) on the regs.

Just bought two buckets for dinner tomorrow, cos Mr Seahorse is going to be out, and it's just going to be me, bathing in pickle brine and watching horror films with the cats.

It was 36 years ago, but feels like a million lifetimes... I was 18, newly married (idiot), and my then-husband, was doing organic chemistry at UCSD. I worked in the cheque processing centre for La Jolla Bank, and had a weekend job as a hostess at a newly opened restaurant in Del Mar called The Valle Rose.  We were only there for a year, and I remember very little else about it... just when you said 'Genesee' it sparked my memory a bit!

Miracle Whip (I am not a mayonnaise person)
American Bacon (There is now pre-cooked, microwavable that you order/import)
Canadian Bacon (I'm from Michigan, what can I say?)
JIFF extra crunchy peanut butter - the peanut butter here doesn't compare
KFC Extra Crunchy Recipe Chicken
Payday Candy bars at less then £2 each
Lawrey's seasoning salt (Best for steaks and burgers)
Taco Bell
Wendy's
Oh! And Bugles in the original Flavour. Why do they have all the weird flavours, but not the original?
Sweet pickle relish to go with my ketchup and mustard on my hotdog
Sonic Burger Route 44 Cherry Limeaid

I think I'm guilty of liking the "weird flavours" of bugles hahaha I am addicted to the BBQ ones! (the sour cream and chive ones are nice too!). It's the "normal" (here, not in US) cheese one that I'm not at all a fan of.

I've posted a "recipe" to Cherry Limeade further up in this post I believe. It might not live up to what you're missing, but there are a few different ones you can try making out there and tweaking for those times that you're realllly craving it if that helps? :)
