Any ideas for a nice Christmas Dinner in London?
« on: November 30, 2004, 03:33:29 PM »
It can be semi pricey but not completely over the top.

my hubby and i are voluenteering for 2 days with Crisis Open Christmas and we would like a nice dinner after we've gotten off of our shift.  (and dressed up)  ;)

Any ideas of a 'special' place for that night?  That may still have room?  We're pretty open to food type, just a nice atmosphere.

Dining out is one of my favorite topics. Unfortunately with the value of the $ it's hard to justify dining at nice places. My favorite place in London is River Cafe in Hammersmith. Not sure if they're open for xmas though - in fact as I think about it, probably not. It's also very pricey - dinner for 2 w/ starter and 2 glasses of wine each was 125 to 150 GBP. The food (and service) was absolutely incredible though.

I've dined at a restaurant called the Tenth - at the top of Royal Garden Hotel next to Kensington Palace. Very good food. Great views. I can recommend it - although I see for xmas they're having a christmas buffet. Sounds great but maybe a buffet isn't your thing.

I can also recommend The Victoria - a gastro pub in Sheen. Excellent food. Their roast beef was amazing. www.thevictoria.net  It's a very nice place too. Hardwood floors, white tablecloths. They were listed in the michelin pub guide. I'd describe the food as modern british - an inventive chef. Plus it's family owned and that's always a plus to me.

thanks!  i've thought of the river cafe.  they may be a possibility.

the tenth looks great.  i didn't see the buffet-i did see they do a 99 per person lunch there.  but i'm looking for dinner.

i'm going to call and see if they serve a regular dinner there!

how 'bout trying The Abingdon just a few blocks off High St Kensington? Another converted pub but pretty upscale and great food. Quite buzzy! May not be open but worth a call.

Also I don't know if this list is worth anything but toptable has a list of "best for Christmas dinner & dancing"  http://www.toptable.co.uk/search_results.cfm/qs/bftID%7C81/

good luck!
