I haven't read them, but I've read articles. I honestly don't want to think about it. I have strong opinions, but I also don't think I should speak on it as I'm not British? But I will say, ever since starting this visa process, I've come to understand Brexit a lot better :)

It's good to be informed though.  Potentially raising the income threshold again, increasing the IHS fee to £600 a year, etc.  It 100% affects us, British or not.  It's just good to be educated and know exactly what you are signing up for when moving here.

I wasn't!  I was only supposed to be here for two years as a steeping stone to a job in China.  Oh well!  Only a few more months under the control of UKVI!

*facepalm*
Sometimes I think we should start a campaign to let the British public know about these things. Everyone here I have ever talked to about everything we have to go through is appalled by it.
Just goes to show you that regardless of how people vote, everyone does believe in basic human rights and are disgusted when they don't see that reflected in how things actually are.

The British know and they are perfectly happy about it.  They voted for it.  The common reason for voting Brexit was so that "My voice can be heard.  Politicians aren't saying what we feel".   Unfortunately, what their voices were saying is racist and xenophobic garbage.  The truth is that 52% of the country believes that stuff.

52% of the people that voted. Turnout was 72.2%. We can only assume 27.8% don't know, don't care, couldn't vote for health reasons or forgot to register, etc.

For the record, I'm one of the 48% that did NOT vote for it and am NOT happy about it (and as Groover said, it wasn't 52% of the country, it was 52% of the 72% of eligible voters that actually voted).

So, go ahead and vent your frustrations - I'm right there with you :).

But to be honest, does this change how WE perceive things? I'm willing to bet at least some of the people on this forum have complained about "immigrants taking US jobs" or "illegals" and the like. Considering what we've seen people go through here and how ridiculously quickly someone can go from a legal immigrant to (through no fault of their own, like solstince) an illegal overstayer DUE TO UKVI'S FAULT, it's made me even more committed to supporting immigration and immigrants in the US.

That's a very good point.  I'm willing to lower my percentage to the people who actually voted for Brexit.

And,  of course, nobody is blaming KSand!    We all love you.

My husband and his entire family voted Brexit.  Makes me feel all warm and snuggly inside.   ;)

Agreed. I can't quite wrap my mind around it. EU citizens can pick up and move to the UK whenever they felt like it, and bring their whole entire family. But UK citizens do not have the same privilege when it comes to spouses and families that are non-EU. We're being hit hard because we're essentially the only part of immigration that the UK government can control. And because most British citizens probably don't marry outside of the the UK/EU, it goes unnoticed. It'll be interesting to see what happens after Brexit has been finalized.

It's so scary - my husband and I were excited to start trying for kids, but for FLR, it looks like its going to be crazy expensive, even with no kids! So I guess that's going on the back burner (again).

I get what you're saying, but at the same time I'm willing to be that most people who voted Leave did not have spousal immigrants in mind when they based their vote on immigration. In my opinion, they are still to blame for the administration, but I don't fault them for not understanding the whole picture.

Oh, good, more fees for inaccurate information.  This process is such a joy.  So jealous of those who are nearly finished with the process.

My husband and his entire family voted Brexit.  Makes me feel all warm and snuggly inside.   ;)

Surely this means that you get to pick the baby's name...  I mean, it's only fair.

Oops! Misread. Thought you said WE (UKY) should get to pick the baby's name. I was all set to vote, too!

I wouldn't bet on that. Americans and other native English speakers are usually seen as 'not that kind of immigrant' but what about the spouses who are from eastern Europe? Folks who voted on immigration want lower immigration and they don't care how it will happen because it doesn't affect them.

Theresa May wants Britain to leave the European Convention on Human Rights, the big one of which is a right to family.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Kids won't increase fees or anything.

They are just expensive in general!   ;D
