I'm on episode 7 of Handmaid's Tale. I watch it online so I can keep up with the US. I won't say what happens  :-X But man, SO good.

The US is on episode 7 already?!  I knew the UK was delayed, but I didn't think it was by a month!
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued

8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

It depends on the show - some shows air in the UK within 24 hours of the US, some air within a week or so... but some shows are months behind!

I was surprised that it took Channel 4 so long to air The Handmaid’s Tale though.

I was surprised they aired it at all.  When it first came out last year, I signed up with Hulu for a trial because I wanted to watch it, and then learned it was US-only, and I despaired.  That's when I started asking KoD about VPNs and stuff.  I really thought I was going to have to get my husband to find a stream for me.  Then I came across it on Channel 4's website and I was thrilled to be able to watch without any dodgy websites or VPN service.

Love Island tonight - YAAAASSSSSS!!!!!!

We have a betting pool at work about the first hookup.  I'm going with Friday.  One person predicted tonight.   ;D

They had over 80,000 applications this year.  I hope it's been cast well and not just people looking for publicity (unlikely they aren't looking for publicity).

Fun fact - more than 5 times as many people applied to be on Love Island than applied for Cambridge University (same year).  Ahhh, and Americans think Brits are sophisticated!   ;D

I started watching 'Safe' on Netflix last night... I'm on ep 5 now, and completely transfixed!

The Handmaid's Tale is next on my list... I hadn't heard much about it and so wasn't really interested until they showed a clip from it on Gogglebox recently -- OMG - Looks so goooooood!!

Yeah, my friend was watching ep. 7 at the same time I watched episodes 1 and 2 last week.

I saw ads for the new season ages ago. All my American peeps were so excited, I just hoped we didn't have too long to wait and we didn't.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

YES! I've been watching season 2 of Handmaid's Tale as well (only one episode down so far as been so busy!).

I think my husband and I might be the only two twats in the country not watching Love Island LOL although I discovered my line manager and her husband don't watch it either so made me feel marginally better :)

Nope. I will not watch Love Island. I hate shows like that. 🤮

Thought I do like Come Done With Me and the dating show with cooking...

I just want to see what they do and where they vere off into unwritten territory with The Handmaid's Tale.
I always felt that the written ending of the book was so strong.

My poor English husband has also tried desperately to get me on the old school Brit comedies, like Dad's Army and Only Fools and Horses. Yeah, just don't find them funny. Maybe I have no sense of humor  :P

Mine wishes I liked these too.
I absolutely don't. 🙃 Haha. You are not alone.

I do like certain reality TV shows but Love Island just doesn't interest me. As you said, shows with cooking tend to hold my attention as I am a food person hahah

Shhhh no spoilers guys! I'm not sure when the soonest I'll be able to catch up on the episodes will be! (just had a lot going on).

Really shocked about how 5 times as many people applied for Love Island than Cambridge!
My, how time flies....

A Very English Scandal!

My 14 year old daughter wants to watch love island and I'm not sure what to do about it.  My approach so far has been to talk with her about the values on the show and how they don't fit with mine, like judging and valuing people completely on physical attributes, having no respect for thoughts, ideas or curiousity, being chavvy, sleeping with someone you hardly know on national tv and worship of "fame" as an end in itself rather than talent or accomplishment.  She's given me sensible answers to all this and says she can recognise all that and still wants to watch it purely for stupid entertainment value.   Nonetheless, that doesn't excuse the issue that it's pretty disgusting all around and she's only 14.

Thoughts?

Hmmm.... tough.  Would you be willing to watch it with her?

When I was 14, I couldn't imagine watching a show like that with my dad.  Jimbo, tell her she can watch it with you, and she'll quickly lose interest!  :)

That was my thinking.

Yes, you can watch it but we will watch it together.  BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
