I wonder how many languages are spoken here? What languages do you speak and how would you say you miss your loved one in your language(s)? Also how do you say it in origami and in song?

I think 'I miss my wife' is interesting in French-English translation as it's structured differently 'Ma femme me manque'.

Spanish is my first language. I'm currently learning Italian for a future trip there with my daughter. So,

Oh I love Spanish. I was just watching a really gripping Spanish thriller (with subtitles!) and said to my wife I want to build on my two terms Spanish lessons! I found there was a lot of structural similarity between French (from learning at school) and Spanish with the Latin roots which helped a bit.  English is just a strange language with Germanic and Latin rules all muddled in.

So that's structurally different from both French and English isn't it, but closer to English? Is 'a' to in Spanish? I was trying to pronounce Mujer earlier - cannot!

I was about to go buy knitting needles and yarn only to realise that this thread had progressed on to various other other things! And here I was thinking that I would finally get to learn how to knit. Getting closer to 60BD and somehow time seems to stretch out infinitely as one inches closer towards the end goal.

I'm Singaporean, so am bilingual due to official state policy English and Mandarin are my native languages. '我想念我的老公' would be 'I miss my husband', but it actually directly translates to 'I am thinking of my husband'. I'm also fluent in Japanese, but you can't actually say that you miss someone in Japanese. '彼がいなくて寂しいです' is just one of the ways that you can indicate that you miss (him, in this case), translating to 'I'm lonely because he's not here'.

We should do a language exchange here too. Teach each other languages. Hehe. I need to learn Spanish because my husband is Mexican (naturalised British) and my in laws speak only Spanish!! I can understand it but my conjugations are a disaster 

OK I should really get myself some needles or I'll end up writing essays here every day.

I can thoroughly recommend minimal common language crossover with in-laws.

Yes we're just broadening out the term 'knitting'. Language is so fascinating isn't it, the subtleties of meaning. In both those meanings it focuses on the impact of rather than the act of being without a loved one, their being on our mind, or the loneliness of being without them. The French meaning sounds more like the act, my spouse is misding from me? I think?

I've just been searching for good metaphors for multifaceted. Apparently the eyes of a dragonfly are multifaceted. So I think we are now in the process of understanding being without our loved ones through the eyes of a dragonfly.

This, may I say, is strong backing for my earlier request for an origami dragonfly, Russ, though I think the eyes must be folded in such a way as to reveal multiple dimensions. OK?

Go get those knitting needles Battlemagick and spin some yarn. Knitting and nattering have always gone together.

I speak English and Spanish, and dabble in enough American Sign Language to get in way over my head.  My mother in law is also trying to teach me Gaelic.

I think I've cycled through all of them by breakfast time most days.

Yep it bucketed down, but brightening up on the horizon!  We have two little ones 4.5 & 2.5, it's been....emotional!!  Kids miss their dad as do I but they're troopers for sure x

I speak English, and used to be pretty good at German before I forgot it all. My other half comes from Texas and speaks a lot more Spanish than she lets on!

I only know one origami dragonfly model and it's rubbish! You have to use scissors to make the wings.
