Yay Russ!  We missed you! ;D I'm so glad you saw my frog!  :D

Thanks for the compliments and the tips. Do you have any recommendations for project #2 and where best to get origami paper, large size!?

I hope you enjoyed making it!  I'm going to set you a real challenge this time. It's harder, but it uses the same box pleating technique you've already done. Best paper to use for this one - gift wrap paper! Generally it's awful for origami for the same reason printer paper is (the pulp is made from short fibres), but it works well for this one.

See how you get on with this one. It's called 'The Last Waltz' and I think it's one of the most beautiful origami models I've come across, even though it's by no means the hardest. It's made from a single sheet of paper:

Did I not go back far enough or did you all skip over Halloween? One of the first things I packed were my Halloween decorations.

Do the American's in the relationship keep up the Thanksgiving Tradition?

I bought a Halloween wreath at the weekend!

We do Thanksgiving.  I volunteer for the day at my daughter's nursery and they have American food for lunch.  We do a big pot luck with other Americans at the weekend.   :D

Awesome! I have never cooked Thanksgiving dinner before, I've only made a dish or two. HA!

Speaking of volunteering, does anyone know of volunteer opportunities, I am looking to pass the time until I can work.

The real bummer?  If you can't work on your visa, you can't volunteer either!   ::)

I'd use the time to study for your drivers license and even the Life in the UK test and get that out of the way.

Hmm... they seem to have changed the rules regarding volunteering.  I was going to say that,  unfortunately, if you are not permitted to work, you are also not permitted to volunteer.  But it seems visitors are allowed to do up to 30 days of volunteer work with a registered charity now, and I wonder if that extends to people on a marriage visa?  Is this a thing, now?

Quote
A visitor may undertake incidental volunteering, provided it lasts no more than 30 days in total and is for a charity that is registered with either the Charity Commission for England and Wales; the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland; or the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.

Wow, thank you. I didn't even think to look up rules for volunteering, I just assumed they would want people to help in the community.

Well, my brother in law has an allotment I can help tend to. I'll look into the volunteering link too.

What do they want us to do for 6 months, sit and watch tv?

How is everyone? I'm part way through week three of triathlon training. I'm so glad I started that towards end of the wait as it's really helped process the stress of it all. This morning we cleaned together!  :D

Awww! You two are the cutest. I am working on another baby blanket, after finishing many other projects that had been sitting there waiting for the ends to be sewn in and made a hat (that i have to pick up buttons to finish). And trying to get caught up at work after a very sick week since I'm finally feeling almost human again.

I thought I was only gone for a week, but apparently I missed Christmas?!

The prodigal returneth. Updates: I flew from the east coast of the US with my wedding dress as my carry on (in a bright purple leopard print garment bag), had the nicest border agent at Glasgow, have succeeded in crying about table plans, table centers, and the ceilidh, have organized our kitchen to display both my Denby halo gravy boat and my plastic Nessie soup ladles, and eaten Chinese takeaway twice already. Let the wedding celebrations commence!

After this weekend, I'd like to know more about the volunteering rules too. I've heard mixed things.
