Oh, yeah... I know he can change jobs any time he wants.  The problem has been finding a different job that meets the income requirement and gives him similar job security.  Entry level graduate jobs in our region start at £17,500 or so.  We could be destitute in London and breeze through this.  But we're living debt-free in Wales and it's hard to satisfy the requirements.  Utterly ridiculous.

Did you know about the upcoming changes when you and your now-husband were making decisions?  I kind of was aware of the rules change in time, but, as I said, we had only just become a couple, and it all seemed too much too soon.  Knowing that it worked out in the end, it's easy to say I wish we'd just gone for it.  But at the time, of course it would have been crazy.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

We did know of the changes.  My husband takes a looooong time to make a decision though.   ;)  We joke that you could put three identical cans of Coca-Cola in front of him and it would take 10 minutes for him to pick one and he'd change his mind several times!  I was NOT going to push him into marriage.  I was burned once in a marriage and I wasn't overly keen myself to take the plunge.  Fast forward five years and two kids later and I can't imagine not being married to him and sharing his name, etc.   [smiley=love.gif]

Aww!  James and I are both first-timers in the marriage game.  We were both in our mid-to-late 30s.  He intended to never get married, and before he came along, I was so terrified of being "trapped" in the wrong relationship (and then, even worse, meeting the right one when I was stuck in the wrong one!).  But with him, I was sure.  And he felt the same.  We wanted to be together, though we didn't necessarily need the piece of paper to prove our relationship to anyone... But then, enter the UKVI.  ::)

Same.  We didn't really care about the paper.  But I did want to be married before we had kids and he was keen to start our family.... so we likely would have married anyway!

In case you're interested, I just stumbled across the new fees for 2018/19!  :o  £2839 £2389 for ILR (+£610 same day appointment).  https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/691580/Gov_uk_fees_revision_2018_final.pdf

Looks like someone has heard our cries of anguish and the increase isn't TERRIBLY exorbitant.

Psst!  There's a typo in that price... Should be £2389, not £2839.  I had a very brief panic infused confusion when I saw that, because I paid £2887 to book my priority appointment last night, which doesn't quite match that figure!

Logically, I know that.  But it's going to be a long time before I am really over it.

I think that's why so many of us hang around after we're through with the process.  UK Yankee is our therapy.  :)

Well that works out well for the rest of us who are still in the throes of everything. It really helps to have people who are happy to answer questions (when we have checked and triple checked but are still freaking out) and simply to commiserate. Thank you jfkimberly and larrabee and all the rest!
