You can buy a lot of insurance for £216 a year.  If the cash back pays for it that sounds good.

We had a dental emergency in Germany and with the EHIC, we paid about €30, about the same as we would have paid on the NHS. If we'd gone to a private clinic in Germany (it took us a while to figure out which were private and which were the equivalent of the NHS) or paid the full cost out of pocket, it would have been a lot more.

The EHIC is great for NHS-type medical care in Europe but if you have a medical emergency and want to go private or need to be repatriated, travel insurance should cover that, as well as travel-specific issues like lost luggage and flight delays.

The EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance.

Best plan for travelling in Europe: have the EHIC and have travel insurance.

Shoot, according to our President, you can get full health insurance for $12 a month.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

It is worrying that he doesn't seem to know the difference between health insurance and life insurance.   :o

What else does this apply to?

Advisor: Sir, tornadoes have hit Tuscon. What should we do?
Trump: Look I'm busy. Send in that Minuteman Program.
Advisor: Um, Sir those are guided missiles.
Trump: Whatever, it will be beautiful.

Thanks for the advice everyone! They came on Saturday, I couldn't believe how fast they came. I feel better having that extra security just in case. It's such a shame we don't have things this easy back home!  ::)

They're pretty speedy over at the EHIC office.

Have a great time in the Canary Islands! 8)
