Luckily I've been walking a bit so I tend to knock out a lot of my episode then

I started listening while in the car so it's not so painful when I hit traffic on the commutes. Depending on the podcast, I can sometimes knock out two just from driving/traffic alone! I've tried cutting back on TV in bed (when I want to sleep) so have replaced that with podcasts.

Lol same except with walking cause apparently I'm a "slow" walker. But I contend that my husband just has freakishly long legs.

hah we've got a few friends that are 6+ feet tall and I absolutely LOATHE walking with them when we're out and about (especially on the rare occasion that I have heels that slow me down on) because I feel like I have to do a slow job to keep up with them! I definitely count it as a workout.

Just started listening to a new podcast that I really enjoy called "Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People". It's a guy that is apparantly somewhat famous (has a show on some music channel in the US or something) who has people call in to talk to him on the phone and he can't hang up for an hour. He will stay on the phone with them, unable to hang up, for a whole hour period (so they can hang up if they want to or stay on the whole hour). Once it hits an hour though, he has to hang up whether or not they've finished their discussion. They aren't allowed to give their names or anything as he doesn't want them to be identifiable and they can literally talk about whatever (if they wanted to harrass him for an hour straight they could). Some of the conversations take really interesting turns and there were a few points where I had a bit of a laugh out loud at the chats (this morning it happened a few times on the commute into work LOL). Would definitely recomment it if you want something in the background to "keep you company" while you're doing chores, driving, or walking your pet of choice.

I've listened to them from episode 1 onward (as I always get paranoid that they'll remove the older ones first (sidenote: the latest version of the podcast app is shite!). But the one I loved last night was episode 2 which was Passport, Exodus. That turned out really interesting actually! And then today I listened to The Illustrator and that one had me laughing as I was getting cut off in traffic so it made my morning commute a bit less shitty lol Definitely recommend it!

You should try overcast, I like it a lot more than the Apple Podcast app.  It's been so long now that I can't remember precisely why I switched but I remember hating the Apple one so much.

Overcast is free.

I started off on #80 and found it a bit long.  I can see how the format could have some ups and downstairs so I'll try number 8.

Dunno if the format changed but usually they are just over 1 hour long as he only stays on for 1 hour max and then there’s a few ads to break it up. The best bit of 8 is towards the end but this guy that calls in is mental but it’s excellent

All right, I listened all the way through #8.  It was pretty funny, especially when they asked the guy who wrote 2000 songs how many were about his wife and said something like 5 or 6.

The thing is, that dude's been on a bunch of podcasts, including This American Life.  He's not anonymous by any means.  I thought the host missed the point by portraying him as a nutter and OCD when he's quite clear that he's just playing a numbers game with the Internet.  He knows if he writes 10 songs about poo, a certain number will get clicked on and he'll make a certain amount of money.  That's not compulsive.

I've got one particular episode of a podcast I want you to try :

#52: Horrible Anonymous
http://one.npr.org/i/560325085:560325087http://one.npr.org/i/560325085:560325087

The podcast is a dating podcast called Why Oh Why and it's #52

Let me know what you think

No - no.........he wrote 18,000 songs!! As of a year and a half ago!! That's probably gone up by now! LOL he wrote 18,000 songs, "about a dozen" are about his wife lol

I've literally neeeeeevvveerrr heard of this dude before so he's anonymous to me.I definitely think he was a bit of a nutter and that really has nothing to do with how the host portrayed him, it has to do with what the guest physically said. I didn't feel he was bringing OCD into it at all, but maybe that was just me? Curious to know if this guy was on This American Life before or after he called into the show?

Will check out that podcast in a bit and let you know my thoughts :)

Sorry I'm late to join in on this thread, but I'm an absolute podcast addict. I hope I don't derail any ongoing conversations.

Finished episode 3 of S-Town last night......Cannot wait for husband to get home to listen to episode 4....Honestly it is SO bizarre but SOOOOOO captivating for some reason.

S-Town is so good. I was listening to it in the car on a business trip with a colleague after she fell asleep. When she woke up she asked me wtf I was listening to, but I couldn't properly explain what it was "about" lol. That was at like episode 3/4 (multiple hours into the show).

If you like S-Town, you should check out This American Life. That show has been around for a really long time and their staff produced both S-Town and Serial. If you really want to nerd out, there is a podcast by AV Club  (sister site of the Onion) where they analyse each episode of Serial and S-Town. It's called The Serial Serial.

Also Radiolab is a favorite of mine. They have a spin off about the Supreme Court called More Perfect.

There was a new one by NPR recently called Rough Translation which looks how things being discussed in America are happening in other countries.

WTF with Marc Maron is also great - he's an amazing interviewer and has had really huge guests on his show, including Obama as sitting president.

I could go on for a long time but I'll spare you :D
