In-person ILR appointment date
« on: August 03, 2017, 03:03:51 PM »
I swear I am obsessing about somthing that's months away, but I just want it over with, and I need to do it right the first time (like all of us here!).  So, I am eligible for ILR from five years after my leave to remain began, which was at the start of my first FLR (M) on 5 June, 2013.  So my ILR eligibility begins 5 June, 2018.

Also, you can apply up to 28 days prior to eligibility (and up to as late as the date that my current FLR (M) expires in July of 2018).  Correct so far, yes?

So if I do in-person for my ILR application in May, I could have it granted, and my visa in hand, before my five years has fully elapsed?  Is that right?
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

This, combined with the information about when fees are paid has made my week!  And I went to the Botanical Gardens and held a tarantula yesterday, so my week was already pretty awesome!  Seriously, you have given me information that will save me many months of agonizing waiting!  Ahhhh!  I'm so happy I could scream!  And I normally don't do that sort of thing!

My five years on FLR(M) is Oct 16, 2017.  I can have my appointment anytime from Sept 18.  Which means I can book as early as Monday, Aug 7!

We just need to decide this weekend if we want to do a Saturday or have my husband use a day of holiday.  Would you like my kids for the day?!?   ;D

I'll take them, KFdancer!

I've got no intention of giving them back, but I'm sure I'll think differently after a day or two... ;D

You are very brave, volunteering to take kids sight unseen!  I'm sure KFdancer has delightful ones (one is only an infant, right?  So that one's easy enough), but I'm just thinking of my cousin's kids... knowing how bad kids can be, I like to meet them before I agree to be responsible for them.  ;)

They are very cute, but I'm bias!   :P

We do have a date planned in Florida (we go at the end of the month).  Got tickets to Ed Sheeran!  Fingers crossed the kiddos are over their jet lag and do okay for my parents.  But they are the grandparents.  If the kids cry the whole time, it's a right of passage, right?   ;D

I've taken care of many kids in my days - infants in daycare, preschoolers as a co-teacher and toddlers to teenagers as an au pair. I'm sure I can manage them. If they're KFdancer's kids, they'll be fine. If they're not, they'll get tough love. ;)

Deal!

Great. If you leave them at the drop off point, I'll get the sometime in the morning.

That's how it works, right?  ;)

All bias aside, I'm sure yours really are delightful!  I could explain the issue of my cousin, but it makes me sound like one of those non-parents who think they know better.  ;)

I know you're probably kidding, but yes... if they cry the whole time it is a rite of passage.  Though they usually don't cry the whole time.  Typically, they just cry at the beginning when they feel like they've been abandoned, and at the end when the parents come back, so they can pretend it was horrible the whole time they were gone.

When I was little, I'd cry whenever my parents left me with a babysitter.... until they shut the door when leaving. Once the door was shut, I knew that was the point of no return and there was no hope so I'd stop crying.

Once, my brother and I were at my grandparent's for the weekend and we were so rotten that my grandma got fed up and told my grandpa to take us for a drive. We must have been gone at least long enough for her to take a bath. I woke up in the car... in the garage... alone. Guess it worked. Grandma got some quiet time.

Mine are "okay".  The boy is only three months.  If he's fed he's happy.

The girl is three.  She's testing boundaries but that's her job.  She responds well to rules.  We're consistent and "say what we mean and mean what we say".  But she and my hubby go through stages of butting heads.  She also has a really big heart and is very kind.  And funny!

Aww... she's at that magical age of being a real person, but still young enough to believe in fairytales and made-up stories.  This is the age that I introduced my cousin's kids to MiniZoom (my car, who could talk *assure*).  If you get 'em young, you can keep fun little myths like that going for a surprisingly long time.  So long that you start to believe in them yourself.  Selling my car to move over here was dreadfully painful.

I wish there was a way you could come to Houston on August 19th and take my daughter to see Ed Sheeran. She's 16 and didn't want to go alone so we bought two tickets and she hasn't found anyone to take the second ticket. I certainly don't want to go! The last time he came here, we had third row center floor seats. I KNOW he could hear me snoring!
