The guy from the complaints department made his follow up call as arranged and I told him it was still not right. He had me speak with a senior tech support guy who said that there was nothing at all that could be done unless I took the computer in so that they could see the problem!!!
It didn't seem to matter how many times I explained to him that we were past that stage, I'd taken it in when it was frozen with all the errors showing but because they couldn't reproduce it later in the back room they decided there was nothing wrong and sent it home with me.
So he says I have to take it back, ...again... this'll be the 4th trip in for this problem, it's like some bizarre ground hog day situation, I am so frustrated!
He did say that he'd try to get involved by phone when I was in the store so I have a little hope that they will actually try to fix it, but not much... (I've given up asking for a new one as that was just getting nowhere but I do want it fixed at least!)

It just seems that they are so dictated by protocol that no common sense thinking is allowed at all. They don't like it when you point that sort of thing out!  ;D
Is there a local certified apple repair shop near you? In the US I had one (macsolutions plus for anyone in western NY) and they were incredible. They'd do all the problem diagnosis and sending in for part replacement when needed, and wouldn't give you back a broken computer. If it was warranty work it was the same as the apple store price-wise, and non warranty usually cheaper. Their service was SO much better than the apple stores. I'd caused my own problem snapping in RAM incorrectly after a logic board replacement (there was a recall) and the apple store told me I needed my entire logic board taken out and replaced again, the local techs had the right tool to fish up the ram and reseat it properly and it was fixed in 15 minutes. (If I'd had that tool I would've been fine... I knew I didn't need a new logic board my fingers just weren't small enough and I didn't want to use something metal and hard.)

So... It could be worth a look to see if there's a local certified place vs apple store. The key is that they have to be an apple certified shop or it won't make an iota of difference and you'll end up back at the apple store.

On my way to the Apple Store now. I have really low expectations.

Of course, it’s been working fine the last couple of days, I haven’t had an error message since Saturday but it was erroring every day before that so it’s not right.

I’ve also discovered some rubbish on the computer so they didn’t even clean up after they tested it or whatever they did and they left it with the guest account active which is really annoying too...grumble, grumble!

Wish me luck!  ;D

Good luck larrabee!  If they don't listen to you this time, stage a sit-in.  #OccupyApple

Well, I can’t believe what happened today, I’m still in shock I think....

I sat down to wait for my appointment as usual, my genius was one that remembered me and as it turns out, he was the one who replaced the lid last time, after they damaged it.
I was fairly quiet as I pretty much had nothing left to say except, I’m here again because it’s still not right.

The guy excused himself to read the notes which were by now copious. He came back 10 minutes  later, sat down in front of me and in as many words, apologised for my entire experience, admitted that they had made mistakes and handled it badly and offered to....REPLACE MY COMPUTER!!!!

You could have knocked me over with a feather!

Because I want the US keyboard again and they don’t hold stock in store, I’ll have to order again online but they took the computer back and gave me a refund to my credit card.

I feel such a sense of relief, I can’t tell you!  :)

I’ve been trying to figure out why they changed their minds all of a sudden but I reckon they must have got wind of the “occupation”.    ;D

Thank you jfkimberly!  ;D

Oh my gosh, this is amazing, larrabee!  I'm so thrilled that you have a happy result!  Persistence pays off!  YAY!

Man, I would love to take credit for this... I really would.  But this was all you (and the one nice 'genius' in that Apple store!).  Well done!

I’m still not convinced that it wasn’t you though!!!   I think I am going to give you the credit anyway, yes.  ;D

That's fantastic news!  I knew the genius bar would finally come through and do what they were supposed to.  In their place, I would have been terrified that you were going to start crying.  Nothing says "I'm not actually a genius even though I call myself one " than a customer crying with frustration.

Thanks Jim!  ;D. Haha, I think that might have been what they were afraid of, but honestly pretty much all of the fight had gone out of me and I was more or less going through the motions on principle at the end there.
Still feeling shocked at the change of mind though!

Pretty well, thanks! I’m definitely going to get another computer but I wouldn’t be without one of these little guys now!  :)

Thanks for reminding me about tapatalk, I can use that to add pictures to forum posts?

Yes, it's super easy to add pictures.  It really makes the whole interface much easier to use.
Just go to the app store and download the Tapatalk app, then search for UK Yankee.  You should subscribe and if it asks for your username and password use the same one as UK Yankee.  When you are writing a post, you'll see an icon with a little camera and another with a mountain.  The camera icon is for taking a selfie so our curiosity is satisfied, and the mountain is for showing us your holiday snaps.
