Please HELP! Lost passport & Vignette
« on: August 06, 2017, 08:56:53 PM »
Hi Guys,

Please help! My hubby finally landed and he's here with me. However, he now can't find his passport with the vignette and I don't know what to do.

We have called the airport but they haven't heard anything yet although it's a 72 hour turnaround.

What do we do? :'( I feel like I'm in hell all over again and I don't want him to go back!

Please help.

Don't panic, he won't have to leave the UK.  :)
I really hope it turns up but if not, you are supposed to report it to the police, apply for a new passport and complete the toc form https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-to-transfer-visa-to-biometric-residence-permit-form-toc

But before submitting the TOC form, I would see if the Post Office will release your BRP with just the letter and police report.

Thank you so much for your help :) We are going to have another clean sweep of the places his bag has been but the only places we were yesterday were the airport, car and then home. I'm just glad he wont have to go home :D

Look in all pockets, in clothing and bags.  Also check the fridge and the trash, strange things happen when you're jet lagged.  Good luck!  :)

When I misplace important things, they're usually either in the normal spot (but between sheets of paper or something) or somewhere totally random. Do a thorough search, preferably separately. Just because one of you looked somewhere doesn't mean it's not there.  ;)

If you did shopping on your way home, it might have gotten stuck to something so it could be on the back of a cereal box.

I bought some glass jars in France and after we'd been back for a while, I couldn't find one. I was mad/sad that it had been thrown away. A few days later, DH found it on a windowsill.... being used for the purpose it was intended. ::)

Obviously a passport is different from a glass jar, but it's easy to overlook things.

Look everywhere.

If it's your own car, and not a taxi, go out and check it thoroughly, too.  Especially look under and between his seat and the center area, etc.

Ugh - that sounds unbelievably stressful. Really feel for you both. Relieved to see the advice here and sounds like some good searching tips too. I found some keys I lost eventually in my friend's fridge with the broccoli I had taken over there!

A gift of broccoli is a sign of true friendship.  [smiley=love.gif]

Unfortunately it's vanished :( We have took apart everything and have been calling the airport to make sure it hasn't been handed in.

It's just so diabolical, he had to at the point that me and my dad met him in arrivals. He then put the decision letter in the main compartment of the bag and then the passport in the front zip pocket. We have take the entire contents out of the bag and nothing. So I think for the timing we need to admit defeat :'(

We've just come back from the post office and they seem clueless...They will need the letter but have said they need the passport with the vignette, I've explained the passport is lost and they mentioned a letter from the home office asking them to release the BRP will help but I just dont even know how to get the home office to write a letter.

We have reported it to the police, we have an appointment to go to the US embassy on Wednesday morning to get him a new passport. Should we then fill out the TOC form? I feel like I've lost all my confidence with these forms etc but without knowing where this vignette I have little choice.

We thought we would update everyone incase this ever happend to anyone else.

We have been to the US embassy in London and a new passport will be at my house on the 22nd August :)

Also, there is a process in place that if you are unable to pick up your brp card due to your passport
being lost or stolen, you can report this via https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence-permits/collect . We had a response within 8 hours with instructions to do the following:-

*send 2 passport sized photographs
*fill in the form which they provide in the body of the email
*send the above docs to the home office address which they provide with some kind of unique code (I assume this helps them identify it)
*Also we had confirmation via email (not automated) stating that we would not incur a penalty because they will effectively reroute the brp card later.

Once they receive the docs they will send us a letter and all we have to do is go to the past office so they can confirm his biometrics and then they will send the brp card to my house.

This has been a learning curve and no doubt we will find the original passport somewhere looking at us lol.

Just wanted to share incase this helps anyone else :)

Really glad you are getting this resolved. Been thinking of you going through this. Great that you've shared this in case anyone else faces the same. Hopefully you can start breathing again soon and enjoying being reunited!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!

Although it's a huge inconvenience now, I think this will be one of those stories that you look back and laugh at!  :)
