Ours used to also sell off in the freezer (where they sold the take home items like Buster Bars ,Dilly Bars, ice cream sandwiches) - bags of 'mistakes' - so if they screwed up an order, they would still sell it off.  They weren't labelled so you never knew what you got, but oh, it was fun!

And Starkiss!  I loved those!  My dad always made me choose between a Mr. Misty and a Starkiss.  I couldn't have both.  In the end, I settled on the Mr Misty Float (cherry).  But I always wanted the Starkiss.  I loved the sort of creamy texture of it.

I know all about the chocolate shell that they dipped the cones in, just never saw cherry.  Was it red?

Cherry dipped was always my favourite. They did chocolate, cherry and butterscotch.  Now you've got me craving dairy queen...

I loved the cherry starkists and the homemade buster bars. So much choice. As a kiddo I never got blizzards. At least not until I was closer to 10 or so.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Ours never had cherry! There was a dq about a Mike from my childhood home, and as treats our parents would let us walk there during summer break.

I never had a blizzard until high school...my mom was to cheap lol we always got dilly bars, starkists or plain cones.

Ugh I want Dairy Queen now!

Oh god, where do I start?

I am the Brit, living in the US (Texas).

Stuff I love about the US:

Automatic Drive being the norm.
79c Big Gulps from 7/11.
Customer Service. (So much nicer and friendlier than the "What do you want?!" you usually get in Britain)
The Ice Cream Flavours.
Taco Cabana. (I married the chicken quesadilla.)
Chick-fil-A. (I married everything here, don't tell the quesadilla!)
Chocolate Dipped Frozen Cheesecake. (I would marry this one but it keeps slipping away!)
Free Drink Refills. (Come on Britain, you need this!)
Loads of other stuff that I can't think of right now!

Stuff that I hate about the US:

Sales Tax. (If something says $1, it should be $1)
Bread. (Why is it so small and sweet?!)
Hershey Chocolate. (Tastes like sick to me)
Having to Drive. (Beeching would have loved it here, there's barely any trains!)

To be honest, I love more than I hate over here. I'm privileged to live here. If I hated it so much, I wouldn't live here! haha!

But it's so funny how many fellow Brits agree with me on the bread and chocolate.

Here comes Phatbeetle from the alternate universe!  What's a cherry dipped cone?  Sounds nice but Ive never heard of it.  Must be another Northern thing.

jimbocz, remind of which God-forsaken state you're from that you've never had a cherry dipped cone? Hell, I bought one yesterday for the granddaughter at Dairy Queen. tsk, tsk

My hometown was a "test" city for the Blizzard back in 1985. That was a beautiful year

It is the butyric acid in US chocolate.

According to MailOnline, the chemical found in Hershey's chocolate, vomit, parmesan cheese and sour butter is called butyric acid. ... They also claim the butyric acid — which gives vomit its acidic smell and taste — gives American chocolate its “tangy” flavor.

North Carolina!  1985 does sound like a good year.  Has the blizzard really been around for 30 years?

My British wife despises peanut butter. To the point where she will only grudgingly allow me to kiss her if I've just eaten PB or Reese's. I used to mind that she wouldn't try Reese's, but now I figure I get them all to myself.

She didn't like tea in the US, which shouldn't surprise anyone. She even brought her own tea bags over, but it didn't taste the same with US water.

Btw, for those who miss Raisinets: Tesco sells chocolate covered raisins. To my not so picky palate, they're quite good. :D

You can buy chocolate-covered raisins pretty much everywhere - Tesco, Sainsbury's, ASDA, Morrisons, M&S, Holland and Barrett, Waitrose, Poundland  etc. :).

Miss you, too! My wife took away my computer for two months, so I couldn't come online. Hehe. I took a quick look around the timeline spreadsheets to see who's gotten visas since I was here last.

We're sitting in the living room waiting to Netflix and chill while the dogs play in the garden. I put the washing out, so of course that meant rain. :D

How has everyone been?

And I'd rather not have my chocolate leave that horrid milk aftertaste in mine.🤣

My favourite grocery store chocolate is Dove dark chocolate.  No Hershey "tang", but also not overly creamy like over here.  It's a nice balance.
