Yeap, at least once a month, it was on the school lunch menu in my Massachusetts town.
Their version was usually ground beef, onions, sweetcorn, and gravy ,with mashed potatoes on top.  Apparently though, as Jimbocz says, I come from another planet when it comes to food.

Can confirm as also from MA, we did have this (and not as a rarity).

My 16-year-old daughter is veggie so she starts the grill for her veggies (eggplant, zucchini, peppers, corn, onions, squashes and sweet and regular potatoes) every Friday and Wednesday for her meals for the week. We made pizza with her veggies on said grill and it was very tasty. Who am I kidding? I had Montepulciano wine for dinner and one slice of pizza. I have no shame.

After spending 10 days in Italy, I can tell you what I'm NOT interested in eating for dinner tonight or for the remainder of the week (at least) : ITALIAN FOOD! haha

Tried some Parma ham from Sainsbury's for lunch today....I just should have not done that.....BLEH.

Today was my cooking day. Made a whole chicken then shredded it, a chicken onion gravy, caramel and coconut pork belly, boneless pork leg, rice with red beans and corn and plain white rice. Plus a gallon of  yogurt.

I just put a kilo of trimmed brisket in the crockpot with a diced onion, two heaping tablespoons of diced garlic, a cup of tomato sauce, and the contents of a box of Carroll Shelby's Original Chili seasoning that we brought over, a couple of hours ago. The house smells absolutely amazing. And by lunch tomorrow that brisket will be fall-apart tender, and ladled into bowls and topped with grated mature Cathedral City Cheddar and more diced onions, some green onions, and a side of Tostitos (best available). And by tomorrow afternoon I will have the worst heartburn, and be happy as a little pig-in-wallow.  ;D

The Carroll Shelby's website seems to indicate there's a distributor in Europe, so.... this is the best Texas chili-from-a-box I've found. It's worth finding here, really.  :D

Lupe Pintos sell their 'own brand' tortilla chips, which are really good.

Amazingly, we forgot to put the cayenne pepper in, and can't find it (kit got thrown out) so I'm off to Lupe's later to get both. :)

A bowl or two of Marshmallow Mateys (deliciously fake Lucky Charms).

Tacos is on the menu tonight.

Try as I might, I can't seem to escape Tex-Mex. I live in Texas, so it's a forlorn hope anyway. My favourite dishes are Fajitas, Tacos and Quesadillas. I can not get into Enchiladas though, probably because I'm not a huge fan of corn tortillas. I prefer flour.

Tacos should be on the menu weekly! ;)

Taco Tuesdays at my house!

We started with Taco Tuesdays and then it branched out to Taco Thursdays and then it turned into lets just do Tacos whenever the mood strikes (which is once or twice a week minimum! hahaha). They're just so easy, tasty, and a way to get lots of veg in at once (and the rest goes into a taco bowl for my lunch :D

J refuses to eat tacos.  Not because of the taste, that's yummy, but because they're 'messy'.  He's all British and eats pizza and burgers with a knife and fork.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

hahaha I always feel like a savage when I go out with Rik and his friends as half of them eat sh*t with fork/knife and I'm like "....this is 'hand' food!! Why are you cutting it up?!"

Really. I remember when I was a kid and had just moved to Texas, my mother took us out to eat at a southern-fried-chicken place. Where the coating was seriously crispy. And insisted we try to eat it with the little plastic knives and forks.... We made such a mess!

Oh, Taco Bell. I got an email from Taco Bell (I joined their list) that the Taco Bell on Sauchihill (SP?) Street here in Glasgow will be "open before Christmas."   ;D
