Laptop Needed for Friend

Does anyone have a laptop they don't need that I can give to a friend?

I know a Big Issue seller that I have been chatting with each week for years.  I don't know much about her situation, but she's a really nice lady who's dead knowledgeable about US politics and The Archers, so we've got plenty to chat about. 

Anyway, she told me today that she's going to do some distance learning and needs a laptop. 

Does anyone have one?  If it's a good deal I could buy it outright, or if you are feeling charitable and want to give it away, I'll pay for shipping. 

Otherwise, does anyone have tips about buying a decent cheap one off EBay?  I know about computers in general, but stay away from laptops.  I'm thinking of getting her a chrome book maybe?

I wouldn't recommend a Chromebook if she has to write papers or do a lot of typing. Maybe one of those little Acer netbooks?

I'm friends with a lot of big issue sellers , but this person is really different.  The other day she was telling me how everyone is on holiday, so her sales are down quite a bit.  Without thinking, I starting talking about my upcoming holiday to Center Parks.  Just as it dawned on me that talking about my middle class holiday to a homeless person may be insensitive, she starts telling me about her trip to Center Park some years back.  Always full of surprises.
