Yup, on a lathe.  That and the gavel are my only two lathe projects.  It would be awesome to own one!

Pepper milk is olive wood and it's always getting darker.  I do love it.

BUT, I wanted to turn my peppermill out of tulip wood but I didn't buy it in advance (as the shop had lots) but the day of my class, they didn't have any in!

That is beautiful!  My shop class had a lathe, but our teacher decided it was too dangerous for a bunch of 7th graders (12 year olds?), so he only demonstrated it, we didn't get to use it (I went to a small school that was 7th-12th, and I think the lathe was there for the older kids).  But my FIL gave us one of these to play with after he had a clear-out of his garage, and I turned this miniature Coke bottle out of pine scrap with it (actually, "the zombies did it").  That is my only lathe experience.

Your pepper mill, though... that is beautiful!  I'm not sorry you didn't get to use tulipwood.  I love the rich colour the olive has turned.  The grain is lovely, too.  It's too bad you've already had that for 10 years.  It would make a fantastic wood anniversary gift.  (What are you giving, by the way?  I don't think I ever came up with a suggestion, but I really liked the personalized/memories Jenga idea.)

I'm going with Jenga!  He's sappy, so he'll love all the memories.  And it's a game!

Now I'm thinking I might do the same for my husband next year (our 5th, too, of course!).  I just need to figure out a way to encapsulate all those memories succinctly.  (And, on another note: Wow!  We've been married for almost five years!  It doesn't feel like any time at all, but it sounds amazing!)

I understand ALL of this.

My first marriage lasted one month shy of five years.  So I'm quite proud!   ;D

Luckily I take lots of photos which helps!

Also, she might be interested in some of the woodworking YouTubers.  I grew up with Roy Underhill and Norm Abram on PBS.  Now there are literally hundreds of people on Youtube.

And also, not that I would encourage your daughter to have an account/use Reddit, but there are subreddits for woodworking or things like r/DIY where people showcase their creations step-by-step and she might enjoy seeing some of that stuff (if only you could separate it from the rest of Reddit hahaha)

Neither my husband nor I ever expected to get married, so we're both a bit confused as to how this happened!  But I think I speak for both of us when I say we wouldn't have it any other way.  We seem made for each other.  I don't now how two people raised thousands of miles apart, in different countries, can end up with such well-matched values and interests, but we did.  And then we found each other!  Eeee!

Honestly, 5 years is next year for us as well and time seems to have just FLOWN by! Maybe by next year, you'll be selling some of your woodwork JF!  ;D  ;D  ;D haha

Hopefully!  We just need more time together to plan and create.  *stares hard in Theresa May's general direction again*

Husband and I talk about this point when people ask us how we got together/etc. so I can totally relate to this point! We just think it came down to a lot of luck in some -ways. He almost didn't respond as he thought I was some kind of cam-girl/sex bot thing spamming him and I never thought I'd even get a response when I messaged him. There are lots of little factors that brought us together and it's crazy as we, like you said, were born and raised thousands of miles apart but he is pretty much me but with male-bits LOL

Our meeting was "luck", certainly!  In late 2001, I was diagnosed with a (benign) brain tumor, and my specialist referred me to an online forum to jumpstart my research into treatment options.  My now-FIL was a member of that forum, having recently finished radiation treatments for his own tumor.  I wouldn't learn of my husband's existence for almost 10 years, though, even though I visited my now-FIL's home in Bristol in 2004.

We met at speed dating.   ;D

That is still a thing!?!

Did you know instantly, or did you just think "This guy has potential..."?

Fate!  :D

One does have to wonder.  He so completely fits the description of what qualities I was looking for, it sometimes feels as though I invented him.  In one of our earliest phone calls, he made so perfect a response to something I said that I almost got suspicious and thought he'd somehow been stalking me to find out my beliefs/values so he could know the right thing to say.  But then I quickly realized the improbability  of that and started crying because I'd finally found him.  [smiley=smitten.gif]
