Just want to make sure I've selected the right options for my online application.  I haven't submitted it or anything, just filling in some of it, getting a feel for what it's like.  I've selected Settlement, and Husband.  Is this correct?

And can you send me a link to the online guide for further explanations of the questions?  It will help me from pestering y'all more than I already am lol.  Thanks!
Applied from Sin City, USA

Biometrics appointment completed Nov 6th
Package mailed to Sheffield Nov 6th
Received in Sheffield & e-mail received Nov 8th
Decision e-mail received Dec 5th

Ok.

"How long do you intend to stay in the UK?"  I plan on staying forever, so is "forever" an acceptable reply?  Seems informal, lol

My son lives with his mother, and I pay child support.  Would he be considered a dependent child, or no?  I'm guessing no.

For my mother and father's information, my father is deceased and never had a passport, and my mom does not have a passport.  Would I put my mom's current last name, or her maiden name?

Everything else on this form I have filled out.

Is this it?  This online settlement application, the Appendix 2 for the financials, and then all of our evidence and supporting documents?

Indefinitely is perhaps better than forever.

I think your son would be considered a dependant child.

I'd put your mothers current last name unless it specifically asks for maiden name.

Yes, the online application and appendix 2 are the application forms then you need also your supporting evidence.

I'd go with either 'indefinitely' or 'permanently'.

I think he would be considered a dependant because you help to support him financially

What larrabee said.

They ask about your parents to make sure that you don't already have claim to UK citizenship through descent... so they are checking that neither of them was born in the UK to UK citizen parents (because if they were, then you would already be a UK citizen and would not need a visa).

Yep. But don't submit the online application until you are sure you have all the documents in your hands and are completely ready to mail everything to Sheffield.

OK I think I have my request ready to send to my 401(k) company.  I modified it...

Re: Vanguard account

To Whom It May Concern,

I am in the process of applying for a visa to move to the United Kingdom, and part of that process is meeting a financial requirement.  I will be using my 401(k) account to partially meet that requirement, and I am writing to request a letter that states a few things to show that my account meets the criteria.

The items that I need included in the letter are as follows:

   - date that the account was opened
   - my balance as of April 7, 2017
   - my balance as of today
   - a statement that the funds are fully vested and available for immediate withdrawal
   - a "wet signature" (not digital or stamped) at the conclusion, if at all possible

If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am willing to pay for priority processing of this, as it is time sensitive.

Thank you so much for your assistance in this matter

Does this cover all the bases?  This can't trip us up, ha.

As for my passport photos that I need to send in, can they be US sized?  And is it 2 of them that I have to send?

I think you would need to have them say something to the effect that the balance has not dropped below xxx in the period between April 7th 2017 and the date of the letter.

Have you called them first to see where this letter should be directed rather than just sending it to "to whom it may concern'?
I think it would be better to discuss this first with someone then you could email this so that they have the details in writing. Otherwise I worry that it may just float around for too long before anyone decides to handle it.

I haven't called them as of yet - I've communicated with them via e-mail.  My last correspondence with them, the agent said...

If you need a letter regarding your employer-sponsored plan, please send us a specific request via another secure email or call the number provided below.

You think calling them and discussing this verbally would be the better way to go?  If so I'll ring them in the morning and see what they can do for me.

And got it, US sized passport pic is fine, thanks.  Just 1?  Or 2?

Ah, that's fine! I didn't realise that the lines of communication were open already. Before you send it, I would ask how long it will take them to produce it so that you know when to start following up with them if it has not arrived. I think some people have had to keep on their providers to get what they needed.

I think we sent 2 pics.

We aren't using my checking account for anything in regards to the application - do I still need to provide 6 months of statements?  Or just from the accounts we're using to meet the financial requirements?  I thought I'd asked this before but reading back through the thread I don't see it in there anywhere.

Thanks!

If you are not using it to prove the financial requirement (or for any other reason) then you don't need to provide any statements for the checking account.

my wife rents the flat where I will be moving once I am allowed,

We have the £25,000 gift from MIL, plus just over £8,000 in my 401(k), and another £6,000 in my wife's savings account.  Based on her income of £11,700 per year

As your wife had 6k savings before that gift from her mother and 6k is the limit before savings are taken into account for some income based benefits and your wife is working part time and rents, is your wife being supported by her parents or is she claiming benefits? If it's the latter, I assume she has told the benefit offices about her extra 25K she now has?

I'm asking because most people don't realise that HMRC do a good job of making sweeps of bank accounts and data matching for the various other government offices as these all share information now.

No, no benefits are being received, nor is she being supported by anyone.

OK a couple of things for today.  I got the letter from my 401(k) provider, and I am not sure it's going to pass the criteria.  I'm trying to figure out how to post a picture of it on here but I'm not able to figure it out right now.  I'll describe it.

- it states my balance back on April 7th, which was the start of our 6 month waiting period of having the financials saved up
- it states my current balance
- it states the date the account was opened
- it states that the full amount is vested

But then it says this in reference to the availability of the funds...

Please note while you are actively employed, you have access to a portion of your assets through a Hardship withdrawal. Upon your separation from service with the plan sponsor, you will be eligible to terminate and payout your entire account. Please be aware, distributions made before age 59 1/2 are subject to a possible 10% tax penalty.

Is this going to be enough?

Then I have a question about my wife's proof of employment information, but I'll wait until we sort this out.  Thank you!
