I have to admit that the good old American Streaky bacon like Oscar Meyer is better for making BLT's, but I noticed that someone mentioned Borough Market (Food lovers heaven in my opinion) earlier in this strand and I have to say that if you get a chance to go there, check out the wild boar bacon!  It is yummy!!!!

Ok, I'm in the minority on this thread, but feel I must express my opinion.

I don't like Oscar Mayer Bacon, or any American bacon.  I miss English bacon, regular or streaky (almost as much as I miss my cheddars)

It's just all fat and greasy.  Blech!

lol :) You know, I think it's the fattiness of it that I like the most. When I was little, I used to eat the fat that everyone else had cut off of their steaks. I love greasy food, chips, fish, the greasier the better.  :D

Patches... we almost bought some of the Boar one...  it looked wonderful...

hmmm..... now I know what to do with all the fat my husband has to cut off of his meat... send it to Leah!   He is really really good at removing every little bit.

On the issue of Oscar Mayer...and food in general.  A lot of it is just the memories and certain foods that we love.

Just because you don't miss it or like it does not mean people don't have every right in this world to miss it.

I don't miss O.M... but I was still chuffed to see it.  The Spanish writing makes it even more entertaining.  I might even have to buy it now.. just to try it and see how it differs....

No youre not the minority. I think one of the only food items I prefer here is the bacon. I love the bacon here! I had thick cut smoked Wiltshire this morning. So good!
My next door neighbor went to the USA to visit her son last Summer. She came back raving how much she loved American bacon.

Damn!  That sounds really snotty!  :o
I hope you didnt mean it like that!  ;)

As for Oscar Meyer, if i see it, I will definitely buy it, for old times' sake... but i cant say i've actually missed it.  I really like  dry cure bacon... i just discovered how nice it is!

I can assure everybody that my anti-Oscar Mayer Bacon comments were intended to be in a fun, light hearted manner.   :)

OM bacon wins hands down for BLTs, but other than that, give me UK bacon.  Hubby bought some OM bacon a year or so back and I was excited to have a taste of home, but when I cooked it, I was aghast at all the fat and it didn't taste as good as I remembered.   :(

Nope Kellie you are not in the minority, one of the many things I love about the UK is their bacon.  Too yummy!  I can not say I miss Oscar Meyer bacon.

I have tried the turkey bacon from Sainsbury's and it is not too bad.   It isn't Butterball of Jennie O but it is pretty close.   ;D

Oh - the fat that came off the 4 strips of Oscar Mayer bacon I made the other night!  My husband was VERY glad he saw it after and not before he ate it!  :o

Uh-oh...can I not get as much fat out of UK bacon?

How will I make Yorkshire pudding without a good blob of bacon fat?  ???

No, she definitely was not being snotty. I've never seen Vnice post something snotty about food - she loves it all!!!  ;D

But I will echo what I think she did mean. In some of our food threads, people who fess up to missing a certain Yank food sometimes get criticized for liking that food or for not being happy with the UK equivalent if there is one. Which is a bit silly IMHO!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Sorry this is a bit old but I was so chuffed I got my own OM bacon today. I saw it once, didn't bother to get it and when I went back, they were sold out. So I've bought two to chomp down on during the Christmas break.

The bacon in the UK is one of the things I just totally hate. It smells so fabulous and I think it's going to be oh-so-tasty and then it isn't. I'm dissapointed everytime.

I ate so much bacon when I went to visit my parents earlier this year, they were afraid I'd have a heart attack. I couldn't get enough of my American dry cured streaky bacon. Bring it on! Fat and all. It's what makes it chewy. Yummy!
