To be fair, it's not surprising that a person who lives in America would not understand why you can't sort your visa out  almost one year in advance.  We all understand, but to the general American population that must sound ridiculous.

I have been astounded by the complete lack of understanding of the general public.... :-\\\\

I don’t expect a full understanding but I went in depth to him about everything and he just disregarded it

No, definitely not just you.  He is being extremely selfish.  His wedding can be moved, but if you don't follow the visa timeline, you will lose this life you've spent thousands of pounds and so much time and energy creating.  If his wedding doesn't move, you can't go.  It's that simple.  You don't owe him anything.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)
